In Bell, California in the late 1800s, many firearms enthusiasts favored sights that looked down on the action from a distance. This was done to reduce noise and muzzle blast when firing. Gun sights were also desired for accuracy in target shooting. One of the earliest and most popular types of gun sights used in Bell was a iron sight called a “bunny ear” sight. The design consisted of an eyepiece with two round circles surrounding it at right angles to each other and set within a smooth radius around the center of the eyepiece itself. When worn on the eye, this type of sight created magnification while still providing good visibility at close range. The next early type of gunsight designed in Bell was an "eternal" type which utilized a convex lens placed near one end of an iron or brass tube which centered around a screw thread located between two flexible arms at each side of the tube. The use of this typeof sight allowed shooters to aim their rifles much closer than before because they could use their eyes as aiming tools instead of having to stretch out their arm far away from the rifle. Gun sights designs continued to be developed throughout the years until 1892 when finally something that resembled what we know today as an Aimpoint microlens Sight first appeared on shotguns using Patent No: 5,837,567 filed by Arthur Hornaday in 1893-1894. This particular sighting system utilized small lenses screwed onto Picatinny rails which permitted shooters to adjust turrets (the elevation/fire direction) without ever having to take off their gloves!

Bell is a city located in Kern County, California. The population was 107,753 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the first settler, George H. Bell and his wife Lillie A. Nye, who arrived in 1853. The town was founded on March 12, 1856 by Capt. Julius C. Beal and others led by Lt. Gov't Genl Doniphan as part of an area Rancho Las Animas Grant that included present-day Kern County and much of Coahuila and Mexico City Province. The first post office in the community opened on March 12, 1856, under the name of San Francisco de la Victoria (founded December 25th of that year). On July 14th 1860, a second post office was established with the name of Kernville (the original spelling). In 1881, both towns were renamed to honor General John Broughton Butler who had been Adjutant General for California during the Mexican-American War and later became Governor of California before becoming President Ulysses S. Grant’s Vice President on April 6th 1865 In 1909 local businessmen publicized plans to build a hydroelectric power plant on Thompson Creek which would provide power to Belltown (later known as North Bell) until it could be connected to Los Angeles via an electric line built through San Bernardino County On January 7th 1914 construction began on what is now known as Hoover Dam which formed one half of today's Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Bell was founded in 1876 by John Stevens Bell and his brother, Alexander Graham Bell. The brothers arrived in California from New York City with the intention of starting a telephone company. The first phone call was made from their house to San Francisco on November 12, 1876. In 1880, the brothers sold their company to Western Union and moved back to New York City.
