The Bell ammunition company was founded in 1892 by Frank W. Bell and his brothers. Their first product was a shotgun shell, which they marketed as the "Patriot." The company continued to produce shells through 1898, when it merged with the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1903, the company changed its name to Winchester Ammunition after merging with Remington Arms Company. After World War I, Winchester began producing machine guns; their first gun was the Model 1897 rifle. The company went public in 1923 and became one of America's largest arms manufacturers until it was bought by Colt in 1970.

In 1892, Bell found a mine of ammunition in the hills east of town. The mine was abandoned in 1902 and the land sold to the city for $1,000. It was used as a dumping ground until 1907 when it was leased to Sanger Arsenal for munitions production. In 1911, Bell's first blacksmith shop opened and produced cannons and rifle rounds out of lead and brass. The San Francisco Bay Bridge significantly changed Bell's economy; now Oakland County had two gun factories (Bell & Grigg) providing ammunition for both the US military and local farmers. Ammunition manufacture stopped during World War II because of scarce raw materials; however, post-war production resumed at Grigg's factory using new supplies from overseas. In 1951, an armory was built on the site which became known as "the Arsenal". It served as a storage facility for munitions until 1975 when it was closed down due to environmental concerns. Today, portions of the old armory are still used as part of City Hall Annexe

Bell, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city in San Bernardino County by population. The first post office in Bell was established on December 3, 1875. The present-day bell tower of City Hall was completed in 1902 and dedicated to Thomas Edison who had purchased land adjacent to the building for $2,500. Today's bell has been ringing since 1907 and is one of only two municipally-owned bells in the United States (the other being that of Syracuse, New York). In 1916 Mayor John Ewart Snow authorized the installation of a second hand gas engine as part of a downtown lighting system; this gave birth to what is now known as "Snow's Era" which saw many beautiful new buildings built along State Street between Spring Street and Main Street. In 1906 the first store opened up in what is now Downtown Bell with Sanger's Drug Store being the first business on Spring Street. In 1911 Jens Jensen started his own grocery store on Second Avenue near downtown with Jens Jensen's Grocery remaining Bell's largest employer until it closed its doors in 1984. From 1915 until 1922 there were three post offices: Smith Post Office on First Avenue near downtown; Geddes Post Office on Third Avenue east of town; and Green Valley Post Office on Fourth Avenue just north of Interstate 10. During these years most mail shipped through Santa Ana would be delivered here instead of going down I-10 so there were no transportation costs associated with this service! In 1941 World War II brought increased activity to Bell as residents began manufacturing goods needed for war purposes such as munitions plants and aircraft production yards; during this time much art was created including pieces called "Paint Can Do Pieces." Many businesses closed during WWII but reopened during postwar years due to demand from customers or because local materials were available at low prices thanks to wartime production quotas set by government officials. However some closures did take place such as the closure of Emporium Glass when it became clear that glass could not be produced domestically at an affordable price due to scarce resources used during WWI/WWII alike - however Emporium reopened shortly after because southern California glassblowers had become proficient at making high quality products using recycled material from nearby warship fleets while still using salvaged materials wherever possible (Empire also imported finished product from other Western states). As recently as 1979 a large fire destroyed much acreage within Downtown Bell emulating an earlier Santa Ana arson attack which damaged several buildings blocks away - although fortunately all occupants escaped unharmed thankfully! Bell, California is the most populous city in the San Joaquin Valley. It was founded by Captain George C. Bell on December 24, 1847 as a small ranch town named for his father, George Bell. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had become an agricultural center with over 100 businesses. The population of bell reached 300 in 1865 and more than 1,000 by 1870. From 1880 to 1890, Bell saw rapid growth due to its position as a key transportation hub on the Central Pacific Railroad. In 1893, during the last days of railroad service in California, Bell became the first city in the area to be abandoned when all passenger trains stopped running from there in 1990. By 1910, however,Bell's rapid growth hadcome to a halt thanks to increasingly competitive offers for land and water resources around it from developers such as John Diller and James Irvine. By 1930 only about 20% of its population remained within its original boundaries; many of those living near Miller Field now work at nearby farms or ranches. But despite this decline, Bell has experienced occasional periods of high-population growth throughout its history - most notably during World War II when it attained post-war highs of almost 500 residents per square mile (161/km2).
