The first recorded mention of ammo production in Bell is from 1869, when a company called John Smeaton & Sons manufactured shotgun rounds at their factory on Second Street. Ammunition production started to grow rapidly after this, and by 1903 there were six companies manufacturing ammo in Bell. By 1920 there were thirteen firms producing Ammo here! The most prevalent type of ammo produced today is FMJ round. It has been used for centuries for target shooting and sporting purposes. However, as muzzle loading firearms become more popular, so too does Ammo demand from hunters and shooters all over America!

In 1922–24 John Witherspoon began construction on what would become Witherspoon Dam across the river from downtown; this dam formed Lake McClure which carries water for irrigation purposes through much of Central Valley agriculture including most notably bellowing off portions of Tomales Bay into San Francisco Bay . Today only a remnant remains visible above ground with an unnamed auxiliary spillway visible beneath it just upstream from Interstate 5 southbound access

It is named for General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the Mexican-American War and died of illness at an early age. The economy of Bell has been primarily agriculture since it was founded. The history of Bell can be traced back to its creation as a small agricultural community by Native Americans. This area had been used by various groups for centuries before white settlement began to appear in the area around 1850. The first permanent European settler arrived in 1875 when John Wesley Powell became interested in exploring what he called “the great basin” which he thought could be developed into an oil reserve if explored properly. He sent one of his party to explore this potential discovery while others traveled to find backers for his venture; all but two returned emptyhanded on July 4th, 1876 after finding no oil reserves within their distance – a sign that exploration would not become prevalent until later on in the century. In 1902, Bell Town Was Incorporated when General George Armstrong Custer's death opened up new opportunities for development within Inyo County due to its strategic location between Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area interests at that time (see History Of Southern Californian Communities). As development crept westward through Monterey County towards Salinas Valley there were reports of gold being discovered along routes already traveled by prospectors looking for precious metals such as silver or gold ore rather than virgin land with much lower value prospects like those around present-day Belltown (although some vestiges of these earlier efforts still remain today). However initial claims were only made on behalf of individual investors who did not have interest or access to transportation or other resources necessary for mining exploitation such as water supplies needed for operations (see Gold Rush Settlement And Development Of Central California). By 1915 over 1 million people had settle throughout southern California including 2 thousand residents living near what is now downtown Belltown (then part of Salinas Valley) due largely to cheap land prices available from ranching operations adjacent to abandoned mines and mineral rights grants received from previous generations’ struggling families during the Really Easy Act Boom years prior; see Growth And Expansion Of Downtown Belltown And Its Role In Southern Californian Community Formation]. By 1930 over 10% of homes statewide had been built specifically around mining interests with areas surrounding downtownBelltown becoming known collectively as Mineshaft Gulch because so much valuable coal seams were found thereabouts). In 1881, San Francisco was founded as a port town on the eastern edge of Alameda County. The area now known as Bell was part of the Rancho de las Pulgas Mexican land grant given to José Joaquin Miller in 1836. In 1850, John Sutter founded the city of Sacramento on an overlook above the River Delta. In 1852, he and his partner Antonio Nunez purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) of land at what is now downtown Sacramento from George Webber for $2,000. The site became Union City after California's admission into the United States in 1850. In 1861, Captain James A. Whipple led an American force against Fort Sumter during the American Civil War in order to protect San Francisco from Confederate attack. Bell started out as a small rural community with only 10 residents in 1870 when it was selected as the location for a new post office. It grew rapidly under its first Postmaster General, Elisha Stevens Whitehead, and reached its peak population of around 200 by 1880. However, by 1890 Bell had decreased to about 50 residents due to development along Interstate 80 and other factors such as increased travel times between San Francisco and Bell through then-new roads connecting inland areas with Bay Area cities like Oakland and Berkeley. In 1951, Bell merged with Contra Costa County to form Unified California which continues to operate today as a single government entity within California's largest county
