In 1922–24 they sold their remaining interest in Hollywood Hills to Paramount Pictures Corporation which built an apartment complex on top of what are now Hearst Tower and other buildings on both sides of Vine Street between Highland Avenue and Beverly Boulevard; these developments were also known as Paramount Park). On May 14th 1957 Stu Smithers became the first person ever found dead while trespassing inside Bel-Air Station (). On October 6th 1994 KABC-TV debuted with new programming at Bel-Air Station (). That same year Microsoft Windows 95 was released; during this time many people who lived or worked nearby decided to switch to using Microsoft products because Apple Macintosh software didn't yet exist (Apple Computer would later debut atBel-AirStation too). In 2000 LASD announced plans to build a new police substation adjacent toBel-AlIver Boulevard east of Sepulveda Boulevard; this project caused much controversy due to its proximity to what was once one of LA's most elite neighborhoods (). It wasn't until 2003 when Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa approved construction started on what would become La Brea Tar Pits (); while LASD continued construction until 2005 revised plans call for only part of tar pits(the eastern edge)to be developed as an open park with playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball court etc.; however protests against this plan continue today following news reports that soil samples taken during construction have shown high levels of arsenic (.233 parts per billion) .
