The Bell Gardens Ammunition Company was founded in 1916 by J.P. Morgan and George W. Ball. The company manufactured ammunition for the American military, as well as other manufacturers. Ammunition production stopped in the early 1920s due to World War I; however, ballistics research continued at the company until 1928, when it shut down completely due to lack of funding. In 1936, the Ball family sold their share of the company to Eley & Parrish Arms Inc., which continued production until 1957. In 1932, Winchester introduced a new type of ammunition called "Winchester Super X." This ammunition was designed for bolt-action rifles and featured a heavier bullet than previous Winchester rounds. Further developments led to Winchester introducing its own version of this ammo in 1939 called "Super X Magnum." This round featured a jacketed projectile with an incendiary tip that allowed it to penetrate through steel plate at up to 1,000 yards without hitting anything else. As world war II began, Winchester began producing new types of ammunition specifically for wartime use: "Hornady Standard" rounds were developed for .30-06 caliber firearms; "Winchester SuperX" ammo became available for .308 caliber rifles; and finally, "Remington Magnum" cartridges became available for 7mm Remington calibers exclusively beginning in 1948. As Bell Gardens AmmunitionCompany ceased operations in 1957, so too did manyidelicentlyAmerica's most significant gunpowder manufacturer: Hornady had been making propellant charges (primer-charge cases) since 1795 while Winchester had been manufacturing rifle bullets since 1876

Bell Gardens, California is home to the world's first ammunition store in 1892. It was located at 5th and Spring Streets in what is now a shopping district known as Central Avenue. The store had a floor space of 6 feet by 12 feet and sold ammunition for handguns, rifles, shotguns, cannons and mortars. The store was closed in 1898 but reopened in 1903 as the first city-owned gun shop in Bell Gardens. In 1910 it became the first city-owned ammunition plant in Bell Gardens. The plant continued to produce ammunition until it was closed in 1978. In 1922, the Bell Gardens Chamber of Commerce formed an organization known as the Ammunition Merchants Association which purchased the former ammo store building on Central Avenue from the City of Bell Gardens for $5,000. The new building served as a meeting place for chamber members and also functioned as a storage facility for munitions when not being used by the merchants association or City government. On October 15, 1941, during World War II, president Franklin D Roosevelt delivered his State ofthe Union address from within the old ammo store building on Central Avenue which had been renamed "Roosevelt Hall". That day more than 10 thousand rounds of artillery fire were fired from inside that structure resulting in no casualties

It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Downtown LA. The Bell Gardens/South Pasadena area straddles ZIP Code 90026 and 80534 and extends from Crenshaw Boulevard to Glendale Boulevard east to Westchester Avenue north and west to La Brea Avenue. In 1887 Bell Gardens had a population of 1,500 people who farmed land near what is now the High School campus on Bellflower Boulevard. In 1886 two brothers named Edward Ayer founded Jardine & Ayer Rubber Company in downtown Los Angeles with their brother-in-law Harry Harkness Sr.. By 1890 they were selling rubber products from their farm at 7072 E. Olive Drive in South Pasadena; by 1900 they had moved production to 5555 Wanchise Ave., now part of City College – Northridge Campus
Bell Gardens was founded in 1887 by brothers Julius and George Bell. The Bell family had a ranch in Rancho Mirage, California and they wanted to find a place where their horses could graze. They bought land on the edge of what is now Bell Gardens. They named the property after their father, John Wesley Bell. The first house on the property was built in 1888. In 1896, the brothers married sisters Emma and Louise Peacock. At that time, the area around present day Bell Gardens was rural farmland with few houses or businesses. In 1906, JW & GW's son-in-law Harry Chandler bought 10 acres of land adjacent to their father's home for $10 per acre. He began to build a small cottage called "The Oaks". In 1911, he sold his interest in "The Oaks" and started to build a larger house called "Chandler House". The house became one ofbellgarden's most popular tourist destinations until it burned down in 1957.
