Beaumont, California is a small city in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, about 45 miles (72 km) northeast of Fresno and 135 miles (219 km) northwest of Sacramento. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera-Alamo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what became Beaumont was John C. Fremont in 1847. He named his land Rancho del Norte after his former home rancho de Nuevo Rey, Mexico. The town site was surveyed by George Wirtz on February 27, 1848, and he named it for General James Hurlbut who had led Ulysses S. Grant's army during the Mexican–American War. Beaumont grew up around Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and later developed its own post office and school system; it has been called "the Miracle City". In 1905, Avila Dam was Completed upstream from present day Beaumont to create Reservoir No 1 on California's Central Valley River Basin; this formed what is now known as Avila Lake which provides irrigation water for much of Northern California. Many people who worked on the dam and reservoir believed that they were responsible for saving Beaumont from development as a sleepy agricultural town that would be swallowed up by larger cities like Fresno or Sacramento over time. On July 20th 1948 Mayor Harry Sargent proclaimed "Beaumont is a New Town" when all but one block of business districts within downtown were closed to discourage sprawl across unincorporated portions of Kern County into which then-town had been annexed two years earlier following an election campaign promise by Republican mayor Sam Rayburn to do so if reelected in November 1946 despite having no authority to do so because he held no elected office at that time other than presiding over City Council meetings which generated revenue for city government coffers rather than serving as actual governing body with power over municipal affairs Overall growth rates kept pace with population increases until the early 1990s when suburban expansion began moving denser residents into older neighborhoods east of I-5 instead of away from them - gradually eroding beige commercial buildings towards more vibrant neighborhoods in central Beaumont where museums, libraries, galleries and hospitals are clustered today near Broadway Boulevard just north of downtown

Beaumont is a city in southern California, located on the Beaumont-Hollywood Freeway and adjacent to Los Angeles. It was founded in 1887 by two brothers, Edward and George Beaumont, who were also its first mayor. The city's population reached 220,000 by 1951. As of the 2010 census it had an estimated population of 375,711. The name "Beaumont" comes from the French word beaune (a type of fruit), which is how it came to be known as a location for citrus production. The first European settlement in what is now Beaumont was made on Feb 1st 1827 when Captain John McLaren landed at Santa Catalina Island with his party consisting of 20 men under the command of Commodore David Dixon & 3 ships commanded by Captains Fenton and Price. This was followed by several small settlements until 1837 when General Antonio Vallejo established Mission San Fernando Rey de la Laguna on Sherman Heights near present day Beverly Hills. By 1843 there were over 50 white settlers living here including 14 soldiers from New Mexico under Colonel James Vail who had been given land east of Hollywood Boulevard for military purposes only. In 1861 Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Bickford built Fort Myer on nearby Palmdale Mesa after being ordered to do so pursuant to orders issued by Governor Manuel Micheltorena following the Mexican-American War.. In 1865 General Don Carlos Valencia established Rancho La Brea north of present day Beverly Hills northeast of today's parking lot off Western Avenue just before Ventura Boulevard.. In 1898 Reverend J.W White arrived in town from Eureka with his family and started farming what became White Settlement #1 . On October 5th 1898 he sold 640 acres for $10 per acre to Lorenzo Matteson along with buildings, cattle & equipment valued at $50,000 . Matteson named his farm “Matteson” after himself & ran it as a dairy business until 1906 when he sold it again to August Hildebrandt who renamed it “Hildebrandt Place” After August died in 1916 without children born here or during World War I they sold it back to Matteson’s wife Bernice who continued running it as a dairy until her death in 1961 leaving behind 4 daughters who succeeded Bernice as owners/operators: Donna Hildebrandt Matteson (born 1966), Katharine Hildebrandt Matteson (born 1968), Kimberly Hildebrandt Matteson (born 1970) and Heather Jane Hildebrandt Mathison (born 1975). Upon Bernice's death her daughter Donna inherited title but no interest because she did not have any siblings remaining alive enoughStatus quo changed when their fourth daughter Heather Jane married Mike Shriver Jr., son of former President Ronald Reagan
Beaumont is located in southern Orange County, California. It was founded in 1853 by James Irvine and other pioneers as a small post office on the Rancho San Antonio property of George C. Beaumont. In 1854, Beaumont became an independent town and was named for General John A. Fremont, who had led the Gold Rush to find gold at Sutter's Fort in 1846. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had a population of over 100 people. Beaumont became an important stop on the Pacific Railroad, which helped make it a prosperous agricultural community. By 1865, Beaumont had become one of the largest towns in Southern California and was home to several large businesses including The Irvine Company (later Intel) and Manufacturers Trust Company.
