In the early 1800s, Beaumont was a small but thriving town in California. It had a population of about 10,000 people and was known for its gunswivels, which were devices that allowed owners to change the position of the guns on their rifles so that they could better aim them. The town was also home to one of the first rifle shootings in history. On January 17, 1851, John Wilkes Booth shot President James K. Polk while he was riding on his horse in Beaumont. The shots killed Polk and wounded several other people before Booth escaped with his victim’s body. Booth’s crimes sparked outrage throughout America and led to new laws being passed banning handguns and making it illegal to possession any firearms without a license. Gunswivels continued to be used in Beaumont until the late 1800s, when they were replaced by modern rifles.

Beaumont, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population of Beaumont was 137,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Orange County was made by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on September 2, 1542 during his search for Spanish ships lost off the coast of Baja California. He named the spot "San Diego" (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de los Dolores) after his patron saint and founded Mission San Diego de Asís on October 7, 1769. The mission became an Anglo-Catholic church and was renamed Mission San Francisco de Asís after Mexican independence in 1821. The town of Beaumont began to form around this time as people from all over Southern California started to settle there. There were initial attempts to market Beaumont as a cattle mecca but this failed because there was no water available to support large herds of cows and no grazing land suitable for Rancho Adobe cattle operations. In 1857, Gold rush fever hit Southern California and many people decided to move away from mines and prospecting in order to avoid being infected with the disease which caused extreme fever and death among those who did not immediately leave their homes or follow health advice from doctors. Many businesses left town as well; some lasted until 1915 when they moved into new buildings or merged with other businesses that had also relocated away from mining areas amidst concerns about pneumonic plague spread through Booster airships during World War I aerial bombing raids on residential areas). In 1868 Charles Goodyear established a tire factory in Whatcom County outside of Sacramento due to shortages of rubber products brought on by improved transportation techniques such as railroads and steamships which gave users more access to markets outside North America due to cheap labor costs overseas while reducing production costs at home resulting in increased profits for American companies). Goodyear's tire factory soon outgrew Whatcom County so he built a second plant near Beaumont which became known as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (GOTC) after its founder’s son Charles Goudreau took over management in 1924 when his father died age 63 years old). In 1925 GOTC bought adjacent land east of Beaumont where they constructed another plant that produced tires using ethylene glycol instead of gasoline which allowed them to remain competitive with foreign brands despite low prices charged by these competitors because there were no natural resources nearby that could be usedto produce gasoline like coal or petroleum oil required for manufacturing purposes; consequently, the company prospered even though it required significant investment up front.) It should be noted that although early residents called Beaumont simply "Beausoleil", eventually everyoneprefixed their surnames with an initialism beginning with "B". For example: Haddock/Hawthorne became Hubert Humphrey/Hubert Humphrey Jr.; Folsom/Folsom became Floyd Ford/Floyd J. Ford; etc.). This custom gradually transitioned into personal names throughout most of American history but continued until recently among some Native Americans such as Carlos Castaneda whose full name is Carlos Ruiz Zúñiga (Carlos Ruiz y Zúñiga), even though he usually goes by only one name - Indian Head - which is also hispanicized spelling thereof without any initialism usage.(See footnote 1 below.) Beaumont, California is a city in the Simi Valley region of western California, United States. The population was 41,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The town was founded by Mormon missionaries on November 6, 1847 as Beaumont Station on Rancho San Miguel de Cahuenga. The name Beaumont comes from Beaufort County in South Carolina where one of the early Mormons had settled in 1827. In 1850, Beaumont became an independent post office and changed its name to Beaumont Springs after General Edwin Austin's headquarters were established there that year. In 1855–1856, Captain Hugh Waddell explored what would become Simi Valley and named it after General Edward Beecher MacLeod (1792-1866), who led British forces into North America during the Mexican-American War and later served as Governor of Southern Californias under Ulysses S. Grant; Winthrop Sperry also named it for MacLeod. In 1861 when California gained statehood, Beaumont Township was included within Simi Valley and then again changed its name to be Simi Hillsborough until 1923 when it reverted to its original designation as Simi Valley when Ventura county was created from parts of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties
