The population was 9,828 at the 2010 census. The first gun barrels were made in Beaumont in 1851 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law George Waddell. They used barrel hoops that had been cut from logs. By 1860, Beaumont had become one of the leading firearms manufacturers in the United States. Gun barrels are still made here today in various grades including 12 gauge, 16 gauge, 20 gauge, and even 24 gauge. Beaumont, California is a city located in Orange County, California and it has a population of over 194,000. The city was founded on November 12th, 1874 by Colonel John T. Beaumont and his wife Jennie A. Beaumont as the townsite of Belle Terre after they bought 640 acres of land from the Native American tribe of Mission Dolores. The name Belle Terre comes from the French words meaning "Beautiful Land". The townspeople named their new town after General John Custer who died in 1876 during the Battle of Little Bighorn while fighting for United States forces against Native Americans. Belle Terre grew quickly and by 1888 had a post office, two stores, one hotel and 11 other businesses. By 1912, the population had reached 150 people and it had also grown to include a school, a fire station and an opera house. In 1916-1920, Beaumont hosted both the Asian Pacific Exposition (Apex) which brought together various nations from Asia for three weeks at the exposition center located off I-5 near downtown Beaumont. The area around Belle Terre started to be developed into what is now downtown Beaumont in 1925 when developer Harry Jahn donated land for commercial development on which he built Jahn's Department Store which became one of Orange County's most popular tourist destinations during its early years. In 1951–1953 two tornadoes struck central Orange County; one that killed eleven people in Anaheim Hills and another that killed six people in Brea Canyon Rancho Santa Fe Preserve before dissipating over Los Angeles County less than mile away from downtown Los Angeles. This caused some damage to buildings within Downtown Beaumont but eventually resulted in little physical impact as most business owners made preparations for recovery ahead of schedule or repaired what damage occurred rather than rebuild completely fearing another tornado event any time soon. "Downtown" refers to an enlarged CBD or core area bounded by 5th Street south/westward along US 101W., 6th Street east/northeastward along US 101W., 7th Street north/southward along US 101E., 8th Street east/westward along Interstate 5 (I-5), 9th Street northwestward to encompass all except part of 10th Street between I-5 and Sixth Avenue NW; TenthStreet ran east-west parallel with I-5 until it met Sixth AvenueNW where it turned northwesterly concurrent with I-5 through Downtown." - From "Beaumont: A City History" written by Robin Wickerham

Famed naturalist Humboldt County pioneer Captain John Sutter first saw land that would become Beaumont while sailing his ship downriver from Stockton on October 25, 1849; he named it "Bay City" because he thought its potential as a seaport justified its name change three years later. In 1850, James Wilkinson Beaumont purchased Rancho Rincon de la Paloma from Manuel Nieto for $1 million; this ranch served as the nucleus for what would eventually become downtown Beaumont proper with its large warehouses and area around Laguna Street (now Main Street) between Peralta Avenue (now MacArthur Boulevard) and First Avenue South (now Walnut Street). The town's foundation story may be more complicated than generally believed: according to one account, Mormon leaders decided not to move their colony until after Mexico's victory over America at Chapultepec because they feared Mexican retribution if they were caught up within Mexico's newly formed republic; subsequent reports claim that Brigham Young personally ordered all Mormons out of Utah before Mexico took possession of that territory following Santa Anna's attack on US forces at Chapultepec. Whatever the truth behindBeaumont's establishment date - or lack thereof- local boosters soon set about making their small town one of great promise postwar for both commerce and culture along with becoming home to some of North America’s most notorious entrepreneurs including Adolph Reedus & Brothers Tobacco Company founder Alfred Dunhill – whose factory complex still stands today across Laguna Street from downtown – as well as early 20th-century members of Silicon Valley’s first computer company “Compaq Computer Corporation” cofounder Bob Kahn among others . In coming decades Beaumont experienced dramatic population growth due mainly to families moving into its growing neighborhoods east of Laguna Streets such as Corona Park (later known as Westmont), Meadowcroft Heights/Laguna View/Oakland Oaks/Mount Prospect Manor east of Third Street between Alma Road (west side) and Glendale Boulevard where homes once stood now serve as officesites or homes for short time periods before being torn down again . With rapid urbanization westward throughout Northern California during post-war decades resulting largely from World War II suburban migration patterns brought about by wartime production shortages created ever increasing bedroom demand even though many Aborigines had been removedfrom Californiaserveral villages locations prior To assimilation leading many remaining natives relocated either inland towards Reno or further south into Arizona Territory although scattered pockets remain within present day interior portions Of Los Angeles County locate near Interstate 5
