Binoculars are one of the oldest objects in the world. They were invented by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He designed and built two types of binoculars-the first was a simple convex lens with a front to back ratio of 3:1, and the second was a cylindrical prism with an overall length of about 30 inches (762 cm). These binoculars were used for viewing small objects up close. In 1824, another person named Isaac Watts designed and built what is now known as the Watts’ Binocular which had an overall length of about 45 inches (1270 cm). This type of binocular had five lenses that could be rotated around its axis. By 1830, other people had developed similar designs to those created by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. The first practical use for these new binoculars came when British officers used them during the Napoleonic Wars to view enemy soldiers from a distance while they were hidden behind cover. However, it wasn’t until 1854 that someone actually made an improvement on these earlier designs-namely, David Kellogg. He developed what is now known as the Kellogg’s Binocular which had an overall length of about 60 inches (1520 cm). This type of binocular became very popular because it could be easily stored and transported due to its large size. It also allowed individuals to see more detail at close range than previous types ofbinocles. Unfortunately, this type ofbinocular also suffered from several problems-namely, its magnification was poor and it required high quality glass for its eyepieces . As time passed, however, better technology began appearing in binocles so that these problems eventually disappeared. Consequently, over time binsocles have become one of the most commonly used devices in human history!

In 1865 the first store was built in town. By 1870 there were 9 churches in town and a school district. The town's growth slowed after 1880 when new mills were built in neighboring counties. However, the community continued to grow until it reached its current size of over 2,000 people as of 2010
