Banning is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It is located on the western edge of the Inland Empire and has a population of over 146,000 as of 2019. Banning was founded in 1881 and named after Captain Banning who led an exploration party from Yuma County into what is now Riverside County. The City Council is made up of five members elected at-large and three council members who are elected from single wards. The Mayor is also an at-large member and serves one term with no limit on how long he may serve after that. Banning has been known for its agricultural production, including hay, cotton, almonds and other crops; winegrowing; cattle ranching; fishing; and golfing. Some of the more famous landmarks in the city include Villa Park Golf Course (the original course), Cement Factory No. 2 (now home to the Kern County Museum) and Donnybrook Reservoirs which were originally built to provide irrigation for agriculture but now provide water for urban development such as Banning's new downtown area which was completed in 2006.(1). The history of Banning goes back to 1887 when Captain George Banning and his wife Fannie Jane Richardson founded Banning along Rancho Viejo de la Luz near present day Bakersfield.(2) At first it was just a small town with only 10 residents but due to their hard work and dedication it soon grew into an incorporated city with over 30,000 residents by 1903.(3) On November 8th 1907 then Mayor John Hanks announced that they had acquired all of what is now eastside of downtown from Donnybrook Agricultural Company effective January 1st 1908(4) making Banining one of the most recent cities incorporation within Kern County.(5) In 1916 when Prohibition was repealedbanishing saw some tough times however they bounced back quickly thanks to their innovative business model called "BanNING Marketing" which allowed them to sell liquor outside their establishment while still profiting off their alcohol sales(6) This model would later be copied by many other towns throughout Kern County(*7). For many years Banining operated under this model until finally being outlawed again in 1933 following prohibition's repeal nationwide(8). However much like prohibition before it banishing experienced a period where they were able to bounce back quickly thanks largely to good marketing strategy similar to that used today by BanNING Marketing

Banning, California is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. It is the only incorporated community in the county. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. Banning's first settlement began as a small agricultural village on an area of what is now Banning State Park in 1884. The town was named for Captain S.J. Banning of the U.S. Coast Guard who served in that area during World War I and II. The first post office opened in 1886 and its name was changed to Banning in 1938 to honor then-mayor Jock Mahoney (1905-1978). The townsite which straddles both sides of Kern County's central valley became an important commercial center due to its location near major transportation arteries such as Interstate 5 and state Route 40. A new railroad station was built here in 1902 and soon became one of the most important rail hubs within Kern County due to its location within easy driving distance of numerous mills and mines across the rural landscape. In 1907, Banning also attained city status with incorporation under then- mayor Fenton Higgins Sr.. That same year saw the famous "Battle of Banning" when two groups of Mexican bandits led by Joaquin Murrieta fought against American soldiers under Lieutenant Colonel Harry Truman while grazing their cattle on public land just south of town; this event helped bring attention to local ranching operations that were ongoing during much of that decade outside the boundaries of present day Banning proper! In 1934, Mayor Oscar Cisneros announced plans for a massive project known as "The Great American Road". The goal was to link many small communities along routes such as I-5 and US 40 through scenic areas like BanNINGState Park with larger cities like Fresno and Bakersfield so as create a more unified region - something which had been largely missing since before World War II when most people living within these larger centers had left for military service or other opportunities abroad! The $8 million project resulted in more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) being added to I-5 between downtown Fresno and Needles over four years while also creating several new communities along route including Antelope Valley (renamed Mojave Valley after it), Garden City/Butte Creek (named after nearby mountains), Big Bear Lake (/ˈbɑŋɡaɪl/, formerly Mono Lake), Cottonwood Canyon/Lake Arrowhead (/kænntwærdʃ/), Corinthian Heights (/kôrpersiŋaɪt/, formerly Highland Heights), Happy Valley (/happylvæld/) – all ultimately providing easier access into central Kern County than ever before! It grew rapidly due to its location on the Applegate River, and by 1850 it had a population of 300 people. In 1861, the town voted to become a city, and it did so in 1871.
