Banning, California is a small town located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. It was founded in 1892 by John Banning and his family as a small station on the transcontinental railroad. The town quickly became a center for ranching and farming, and its economy relies heavily on the production of crops such as wheat and barley. The population of Banning peaked at over 10,000 in 1920, but has declined since then, remaining below 900 today. The towns namesake is John Banning, who donated land to the town in 1892. Today, the only remnant of Banning's past are some remains of its original buildings dating back to 1892-1912. FMC manufactured pistols for military use during World War I and II. In 1949, FMC merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Winchester Repeating Arms Company LLC (WRA). At WRA, Winchester began producing sporting rifles such as handguns under the name Remington Arms Company Incorporated (URA). In 1957, URA merged with Browning Arms Corporation to form Browning-Remington Corporation Incorporated (BAR). BAR produced shotguns under the names Savage Arms Corp., receivers were made by Geissele & Schiebel AG (now part of Sigarms), stocks were made by Heckler & Koch AG (now part of HK group) and other products were produced by numerous companies including Rupprecht Guns GmbH & Co KG (later known as Sturmgewehr AG), Weiser Guns GmbH & Co KG ([Weiser] rifle company). After BAR acquired Geissele & Schiebel AG from Rohde und Schwarz Ltd., it ceased manufacturing any firearms entirely beginning on October 1st 1998[1]. In total there have been more than 50 different firearms manufacturers that have used arms parts from Rupprecht Guns GmbH & Co KG throughout their product line.[2] Many companies that have manufactured weapons components include Heckler& Koch AG,[3], SIGarms CO., [4], Godfrey&Knapp SA,[5],[6],[7],[8],[9],[10], Weiser Guns GMbH,[11][12][13] MBDA Deutschland GmbH,[14], Thieme Defence Industry Holding SE/(Thieme) und ZEISS GlaswerksproduktionAG did not respond to requests for information about their firearm component capabilities within 24 hours after being asked.[15]
