In 1907, an amusement park called "The Parks" was located in what is now Baldwin Park. The park had three tracks that linked different parts of the park. In 1963, Pasadena voters passed a bill authorizing the creation of a new city government within its boundaries and annexing portions of neighboring San Marino Creek Valley as part of this new city. On December 12, 1967, Baldwin Park incorporated into the newly created city limits as well. At that time it had a population of 9600 people and employed over 400 people directly or indirectly from its growing community economy. In 1984-1985, City Council approved plans to demolish most if not all of the remaining amusement park infrastructure and replace it with modern development including housing and retail businesses-the first major redevelopment project for Baldwin Park since its incorporation into Pasadena’s municipal jurisdiction thirteen years earlier. Ultimately only two tracks were preserved from demolition while other structures were replaced with modern architecture which continue to be used today by nearby residents as their homes and commercial entities
The Baldwin Park area was first settled in the 1840s by Englishman John Baldwin. The community name is derived from a small stream called upland that ran through the area. The community was founded on a grant from Rancho Los Alamos, and it became an agricultural center in the late 1800s. In 1910, Baldwin Park opened its own hospital, which remain operational to this day.
