It is located on the southern edge of the San Joaquin Valley and about 12 miles east of Bakersfield. Baldwin Park is one of the original towns in Kern County. In 1868, John B. Baldwin founded what would become Baldwin Park with land he had purchased from Mexican nationals who had been deported from California after President Ulysses S. Grant issued their removal order. The first post office was established in Baldwin Park on October 15, 1868. A year later, Antonio Valdez opened a general store in Baldwin Park which soon became an important economic center for the community during its early years. The early days of American independence were a time of great turmoil and excitement within California; many men left to fight for their country and there were waves of immigrants pouring into California during this time period including many Mexicans who had been deported back to Mexico by Ulysses S. Grant's administration following his decision to end Reconstruction in America following the Civil War (the "1867 Amnesty"). Many people inCalifornia felt that these new arrivals were not truly Americans because they did not speak English or have any ties to traditional American values and customs such as religion or politics; they instead opted for an unknown way of life that differed significantly from their own homelandback home... In response to these challenges and settlers arriving from all over North America seeking freedom and opportunity within Californialand beyond- local officials enacted laws forbidding Indians (Cherokee, Apache etc.) from living on government territory east of Interstate 5 as well as barring Chinese laborers working on public projects from residing here... These measures served only to alienate some sections of societyfrom those who desired access to education, healthcare, jobs and social services available in other partsofthe state... nonetheless several hundred families settled here between 1870-1910 providing stability and infrastructure needed for what would become known as "The City Of Industry." During World War II much activity took place at nearby Rosamond Army Air Field which helped support military efforts abroad while also providing employment for local residents; soldiers stationed here included veterans returning home after serving in Europe or Japan before being discharged back into civilian life… The city grew rapidly during World War II with businesses popping up all around town like Wacoal Flooring & Home Goods Company (founded 1947), J&L Distributors (established 1951), Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) gas stations along US 99/Foothill Boulevard (later KGO) which acted as areas where locals could purchase gallon gasoline cans just like back home but also sold food items such as canned goods at Lowrey's Grocery Stores throughout town multiple times per day until 1978 when it closed down due to low sales.. Today much activity takes place inside Old Post Office building along US 99A off FM 1492; it has been used since 1957 as a Community Center containing various programs like art galleries, music performances etc.. It wasn't until 1952 that PGC brought electricity into the area so most homes turned out electric beginning around 1946 when TV production began downtown near Masonic Temple Turnpike This led to more businesses opening up including Weiser Furniture Store(owned by JBS Foods Incorporated now JetBlue Airways)which doubled as both a grocery store AND movie theater hosting top Hollywood stars over time followed by nearby Lodge Hardware Store(now Macy's Departmentstore) etching its name onto buildings throughout town becoming one of the oldest commercial districts still existing today’). By 1960 there were over 100 businesses operating within sightlinesof each other making it difficult enough even for large cities like Los Angeles without having entire neighborhoods completely destroyed by development! In fact almost every business currently standing within sightlines OF Baldwinsparkwas founded prior To 1980!. Today most activities take place insideOldPostOfficeBuildingalongUS99AoffFM1492;ithasbeenusedsince1957asaCommunityCentercontaining variousprogramslikeartgalleries,,music performances etc..
The area that is now Baldwin Park was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 18th century. The Ohlones were a Native American tribe and their land was originally part of the mission system in California. In 1851, the United States acquired ownership of Mission San Francisco de Asís from the Mexican government. The U.S. built Mission San Francisco as a religious center for native Americans and Europeans living in California. In 1875, the town of Baldwin Park was founded on what is now east side of Alice Street between North Avenue and Indian School Road. The town became an agricultural community with many farmers producing hay, fruits, vegetables, cattle, and eggs. The town had a post office from 1880 to 1905 and a bank from 1911 to 1914. In 1916, Baldwin Park was annexed by Pasadena City Hall. Pasadena City Hall set up its own government and made changes to how it operated with help from local businessmen such as Jepson Lumber Company president John Pendergast and real estate developer Harry Chandler
