Baldwin Park is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Baldwin Park is located just east of downtown San Bernardino and flows into eastern Riverside County. It is bordered by the cities of La Jolla and Carlsbad to the north,ceanside to the east, and University City to the south. The area that would become Baldwin Park was part of Rancho Cucamonga Spanish land grant given in 1810 to Manuel Nieto. In 1851 David Hinton bought part of Rancho Cucamonga from Nieto for $4,000. Hinton named his new property Baldwin Park after Benjamin Franklin Baldwin, an American politician who served as U.S. Secretary of State (1849–52). A post office called Baldwin Park was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1908 John Lubbock became president of Southern Pacific Railroad and ordered all trains passing through his company's tracks be stopped at Blytheville Junction on their way between Los Angeles and San Diego so that he could rebuild the railroad there without having them run through Carlsbad or La Jolla which were then town limits of San Bernardino County but now part of Irvine county. As a result many small communities - such as Foothill Village - flourished around Blytheville Junction due to this rail traffic interruption while larger towns like La Jolla were left stranded without service or development opportunities because they were too close to Southern Pacific's main line

Baldwin Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 25,812 at the 2000 census. Baldwin Park is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Southern California and has been home to successive waves of immigrants from various parts of Asia, Latin America and Europe since its incorporation as a city in 1912. The city's nickname is "The City on the Hill" because of its location atop hills that give it an overlook of Downtown San Bernardino. The first people to reside in what is now Baldwin Park were Mexican settlers who arrived during the 1823 Rancho Vicente sale. Mexican land grants were made throughout Southern California and Baldwin Park was given one in 1851. In 1912, when San Bernardino County was formed, Baldwin Park became part of it. At that time it had a population of only 2 people. The first white person to live in what is now Baldwin Park was Jens Jensen who purchased land adjacent to present day Spring Street and built his house there on November 10th, 1855. His wife Johanne also lived there for a short period before moving back eastward with their two children after finding work cleaning houses for wealthy businessmen across country while they waited for their new rancho to be completed (now called Cathedral Hills). In 1861 Sacramento county awarded 640 acres (2 km²) west of downtown San Bernardino for settlement by Europeans with the condition that no more than fifty families should settle there at any given time; thus began what would become known as "the European Settlement Period". By 1870 about 400 families had settled here including 50 Germans and 100 Swedes who constructed farms and stores along Spring Street between 1871-1872 (later renamed Elmira Road). A post office was established at present-day Spring Street on October 15th, 1875 under the name "Baldwin Heights". By 1880 only 7 residents remained living in town: 5 German Americans (3 men and 2 women), 1 Swiss American (1 man), 3 Italians (2 men), 1 Japanese American (1 woman) In 1888 US Senator John Fetterman offered $10,000 () towards building a school District No 8 out of which would grow BaldwinPark; this offer led to the erection by Private George Sutter Sr., Mayor Hahnemanns & Company on December 4th 1889 of Painted Stone School House – today’s venerable First Baptist Church located just eastbound off Congress Boulevard near Interstate 215 junction – which served as permanent educational headquarters until 1913 when then newly founded Pomona College relocated from Claremont Hills into nearby Pomona Valley . It should be noted that prior to this date all public instruction taking place within or around present day BaldwinPark occurred through private schools operated by citizens/citizenship groups . Classes began September 6th 1890 inside old Sutter’s schoolhouse…. Today former First Baptist Church property sprawls across many blocks just eastbound off I-215 junction near interstate entrance #213
