In 1934, Bakersfield, California was founded as a small town of about 25,000 people. The city’s growing population and industry led to the opening of several new factories in the city over the years. One of these factories was W.R. Grace & Co., which manufactured firearms and ammunition. In 1934, W.R. Grace & Co.'s president, Samuel Copley Evans, decided to begin manufacturing soft guns in response to increasing demand for this type of product from law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Evans hired Tony Lomas as his designer and head engineer for this project. Lomas had been working on a prototype soft gun case since 1923 when he designed and patented the first telescoping recoil-cocking handgun case system used by the U.S military during World War I (the American Pistol). He resumed development of this system in 1924 after it had been abandoned by Grace & Co.. The Lomas Soft Gun Case was initially developed as a two-piece design with an internal carrying handle that could be collapsed into its usual position against a background support bar when not in use; however, due to increased demand from law enforcement agencies throughout America for such cases, Evans decided to produce a three-piece soft gun case design with an external carrying handle that could be collapsed into its normal position when not in use (see FIGURE 1). This three-piece design ultimately became known as the “Waco” model because it was designed by then Waco Manufacturing Company president Wiley Horman Wright III – who also helped develop the original “Waco” pistol case system used by police departments throughout Texas during World War II (see FIGURE 2). When production began at Waco Manufacturing Company's plant in Bakersfield on May 15th, 1934 – just one week after Bakersfield had been founded – there were only eight handguns manufactured using the new soft gun case design (see FIGURES 3A-B). However, within months of production commencing at Waco Manufacturing Company’s plant in Bakersfield starting on July 1st 1934 – more than 1200 handguns were being produced utilizing the new soft gun case design each month! By October 1935 more than 2000 pistols were being produced utilizing the new soft gun case design each month! In total almost 4500 pistols utilizing the new soft gun cases were manufactured between 1934 and 1945! Today nearly all Law Enforcement Agencies across North America are still relying upon either or both of these Original “Waco” models - specifically those made by Waco Manufacturing Company - for their Police Firearms needs!

In recent years, soft gun cases have become increasingly popular due to their versatility and ability to accommodate a wide range of pistol models. Many soft cases are now available in both "A" frames (which are larger pistols that can be stored upright) and "B" frames (which are smaller pistols that can be stored horizontally). The original inhabitants were Native Americans who called themselves Yokuts or Chumash people according to ethnographer Edwin Calkins writing in 1938 about their traditional practices: “They hunted game with bows and arrows from cover; gathered nuts and fruits during fallow years; raised chickens during winter; made baskets from sun dried cloths” These practices continued into recent times as many Chumash people still live in the area today. On July 15th 1861 a group of men under Captain James Kapp journeyed upriver from Stockton to what is now Hollister if Bakersfield had not already been established there because Rancho San Joaquin land extending upriver had been given to Manuel Nieto by Governor George Miller as a way of appeasing Anglo settlers who were angry over Mexican claims to that territory. On September 10th 1861 Mexicano soldiers attacked an Anglo settler party near present day Humboldt Bayou just north of town limits west of Interstate 5 southbound lanes between I-5 exit 11A & 12A causing $2 worth of damage reported but no injuries reported with one man dead – this event would later be known as "The Battle at Humboldt Bayou". Mexican troops have also been accused of attacking other small towns along the river such as Sanger Adobe east off US Route 66 just north (now within nginx/google)of town limits while lying low during American military operations - some sources even allege Mexican troops participated directly in these attacks providing cover for Ulysses S Grant's army while they looted properties east off US 66 near Cottonwood Lake - this region now forms much of downtown BakersFIELD! 1) By 1860 all around central California missions were being raided by Mexicans seeking arms & treasure since Mexico claimed all land west of the Central Valley except for sections grants to Ranchos Santa Fe & Sacramento owned by Englishman James Folsom which reached southern CA prior toMexican intrusion
