Many Japanese-American families were forced to leave their homes and move to attacks such as Pearl Harbor which greatly increased pressure on those living near American military bases abroad to flee or face deportation back home. Many people who had been evacuated from their homes at Pearl Harbor decided to stay in control of what remained of their properties while they awaited news about whether they would be given refugee status or not. As soon as information emerged that no concentration camps were being established outside American territory following World War II, many people returned home including many Japanese-American families who had left before Pearl Harbor because they did not believe that they would be interned again should Japan erupt into war again.(Kaneki) In 1957 Azusa voted unanimously against annexation by East Bay City which would have made it an experimental city governed by Berkeley voters instead of elected officials from within its own borders . Azusa, California is a small city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 71,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles metropolitan area. Azusa is located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County and bordered by Pasadena to the south and west, San Gabriel Valley to the north, and Orange County to the east. The first permanent settler in what is now Azusa was Pedro Felipe de Alvarado y Costilla who arrived in 1795. He founded Rancho Felipe del Sur which became known as Villa Felipe after his death in 1823. In 1843 Humboldt brothers Don José Herrera y Ortega acquired Rancho Secuela from Alvarado’s heirs for $3,000. They developed it into one of Southern California’s most successful ranching operations with 12 miles (19 km) of road connecting it with Mission Santa Ana and its sister mission at Chino Hills northwest of downtown Azusa. In 1851 Mexicans brought over by Mexican president Porfirio Diaz began making farming starts in this region along nearby Nogales Creek where they built Adobe Walls neartoday's City Hall complex on Decatur Street/State Route 126 intersection just east of I-5/US 101 interchange on Feburary 26th 1851 under license from Ulysses S Grant Administration; This event marked beginning of Azusa's long history as an agricultural center due to pioneers' investment hereabouts."
