Azusa, California is a city located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 912 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Orange County and a suburb of Los Angeles. The first Europeans to visit what is now Azusa were Spanish Franciscan missionaries and they named it Santa Rosa de la azusa (Saint Rose of la azusa). In 1821, Mexican land grants were made to Canoga Park Creek settlers and by 1827, all but one family had left for Mission Viejo due to high water levels and scarce land. By 1846, most of the Mexicans had been expelled from California as part of the Mexican-American War. In 1853, Azusa became an incorporated town when two ridges that separate downtown from rural areas were connected by a road called First Street. The first post office opened in 1870; however, it did not remain open long because there was no mail service available until1872. At that time, it was known as "the little capital." The first real growth took place during World War II when many munitions plants sprang up around town including Litton Industries (now Link Tech) which produced ammunition for both sides in the warring countries. The Plants closed during the postwar period butAzusa's economy revived with new construction beginning in the early 1960s which culminated in Measure J becoming law on November 3rd 1961 creating Azusa's first city government with a Mayor/Council form of government and adding an elected City Manager who reported directly to City Council members instead of to Mayor Halliburton who served concurrently through three terms starting on January 1st 1966 thru December 31st 1971 inclusive). On July 15th 1978 voters approved Measure M which created Anschutz Medical Campus adjacent to downtown AZUSA providing direct medical services to patients free or at very low cost thereby establishing Azusalia as one major center for medical care within easy reach for citizens throughout southeastern Los Angeles County
Azusa, California is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of Fresno County, California. The population was 38,362 at the 2010 census. Azusa is also the location of Southern Pacific Railroad's mainline from Fresno to Bakersfield.
