USR was acquired by Amtrak in 1971 and has since been one of America's most important passenger railroads with more than 150 million passengers served annually on over 5500 routes across 31 states and Washington D.C.. Amtrak also maintains trackage rights through Azusa for Interurban Railway Company (IR) commuter service from downtown Los Angeles to various communities along Route 101 south of Baldwin City including Chatsworth, Encino Hills and Northridge

Azusa, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of south-central California. The town was founded by Mexican Americans in 1851 as part of the Rancho Los Alisos. It became an incorporated city in 1911. Azusa is located on the east bank of San Joaquin River, about 20 miles (30 km) north of Sacramento and 120 miles (190 km) south of Fresno. In 1851, when Californio ranchers bought title to three million acres (1 million hectares) along both sides of the San Joaquin River from Mexico, they decided that they would named their new rancho after one or more local saints—Aquinas being one possibility—in order to populate and improve this new landmass which had been left unclaimed for so long. In 1861 Luis Angel Gomez became mayor and began efforts to open up much mesa country surrounding his home town for settlement with coffee trees still being grown there until 1915; he also started organized housing developments around his home base where single family dwellings were built initially but soon subdivided into apartments and later into ranches with southeast facing valleys providing fertile ground for agriculture like cornfields and beans fields; streets were laid out perpendicular towards watercourses which served as drains for residents’ lawns). By 1865 most residents had moved away because cotton farming proved successful on these very rich soils while other industries such as lumbering developed nearby due largely to low tariffs levied against imported goods at that time; however much remains visible including old homes remaining standing today despite having been abandoned years ago! On October 1st 1862 a group led by Captain John Clements established a post office at what is now known as Hacienda Heights within sight of Mission San José de la Alcala just south-west of modern day downtown Azusa; it remained operational until 1969 when it closed due mainly to lack patronage although mail continued arriving via horseback courier until 1951 when a wire service arrived making postal services available statewide beginning with Kingsbury Hall in Sacramento
