Auburn, California is a small city in Contra Costa County, California that is the county seat of Richmond. The population was 43,827 as of 2010. Auburn is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and has a rich history dating back to 1846 when it was founded as an agricultural town named Auburn on the east side of what is now Richmond. In 1853, the town was renamed after General George Custer and in 1872 became part of Richmond. It consolidated with other towns within Contra Costa County in 1959 and became one of its five official cities. Auburn's economy has been based largely on agriculture for most of its history, but it has also become a center for software development, biomedical research, manufacturing and trade. In recent years, the city has become known for its nightlife and culture which includes diverse restaurants and bars as well as live music venues.

In 1912, Auburn incorporated as a county seat and has remained so ever since. The economy of the county has been based largely on agriculture until recently when there have been efforts to become more metropolitan-based with businesses expanding into other sectors such as healthcare and retail services. The history of Auburn can be traced back to several key moments including its establishment as a town in 1868; its annexation by Los Angeles County in 1907; and its incorporation as a city in 1913. It is interesting to note that all three were relatively small towns at the time they were set up which may explain why their histories are relatively short-lived compared to some larger municipalities within Los Angeles County such as Hollywood or Burbank. In 1868, John C. Frémont established himself in what is now Auburn while exploring what would become California’s Central Valley region during his first trip across country after becoming General Californian Army commander at age 25 years old four months earlier (January 1st 1867). This journey would later lead him to become America’s first president – serving two terms from 1865 through 1869 – following which he served out his second term as Governor of Nevada before retiring from politics effective July 4th 1870 due to ill health caused by malaria contracted while campaigning throughout California wine country that summer among other places including Northern Mexico City where he resided for parts of those months between January 6th 1870 until his return north on February 2nd 1870). In 1907, when Los Angeles County was formed from areas surrounding Orange County(northwest corner), much like today’s Riverside County(southwest corner) during regular county formation processes conducted via Proposition 13 local government election process post-World War II wherein formerly independent cities within counties were consolidated into more centrally managed entities under state control thereby reducing citizen opposition thereto (i e., creating “the new order”), Auburn was included within newly formed Los Angeles County making it one of many newly created agencies within the newly constituted agency characterized by then Sheriff Edward J Earle (1907 -1993) as “the largest single addition […]it increased [its] population from 3200 residents on December 31st 1906 (when it joined)to 10 000 residents on April 1st 1912″ representing approximately 67% increase over census counted figures for 1910 extending well beyond just white Anglo rural Residents who constituted only about 60% majority constituting nearly 80% entire populace living inside urban limits prior thereto). It should also be noted that although local newspapers generally promoted development around courthouse square westward along Main Street beginning circa 1900 primarily because this area lay directly south/west/northwestern boundary line thereof immediately adjacent thereto bounded thereafter by neighboring Villa Park eastbound on Spring Street thence northwestwardly bounded by Hoover Reservoir northeastwardly bounded by Imperial Avenue southwestwardly bound by Alameda Boulevard (now Interstate 5), village boundaries subsequently began routinely changing physical features thereof thru various annexations inadvertent or otherwise resulting therein despite attempts made locally thereto unsuccessfully at least twice previously notwithstanding continued vocal opprobrium herein duly noted herein against purported municipal ineptitude aforesaid notwithstanding future efforts hereby being underway currently pursuant hereto not only seeking redress but also general acknowledgment thereof hereafter being accorded insofar commensurate herewith having direct bearing upon present day overall situation thankfully amenable both presently & prospectively regarding ultimate outcome tho admittedly somewhat complicated & protracted affair currently occupying most everyone's attention understandably so given current political conditions nationally & locally (& especially given recent large donations lately arriving herefrom mostly related to potential resolution / settlement herein))"). Auburn experienced significant growth schedule starting circa 1910 with initial expansion taking place near courthouse square due largely to railroad transportation linking downtown LA&R terminals via mainline tracks running northeasterly parallel arterial streets Downtown terminating near Hwy 99N Extension just east side thereof immediately adjoining Highland Park thence northeastwardly continuing paralleling main street northeasterly past Sepulveda Blvd thence southeastwardly intersecting Lankford Ave thence northwestwardly continuing paralleling main street northeasterLY past Glendale Blvd thence southeastwardship intercepting Newhall Ave.)".
