Auburn, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 3,821 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Kern River. Auburn is one of the few towns in California that does not have an airport. The first permanent settler in Auburn was Tom Sawyer, who arrived with his family in 1847. A post office called Auburn was established in 1853, and remained open until 1907. The town charter was granted on December 15, 1861 by Governor John Pembroke. On July 1, 1892 the name change to Auburn for its location on the bank of the Kern River near San Bernardino County's then-largest city of Los Angeles. Athletic success during World War II led to new development around nearby Mulholland Drive and Interstate 5 within what are now parts of Compton and Carson City; these developments are sometimes called "Auburn South". In 1957, when Mulholland Drive became State Route 99W (SR 99W), part of it became I-5 Business which served as a bypass for SR 99W until its truncation east of downtown Los Angeles in 1998 when I-5 took over that routing from SR 99W to become Downtown LA's primary north–south route. Auburn has since regained some lost ground due to development such as Riverside Drive/Pinecrest Avenue across from town center being developed into a high-end shopping mall complete with an indoor pool and two restaurants known as "Auburn Hills" - one adjacent to Applebees restaurant and another just inside Pioneer Park off Birch Street between Interstate 5 and US 120; this latter project replaced much older buildings along Birch Street which had been home to various businesses including several grocery stores before they were closed abruptly due to redevelopment plansPhase 2: This Phase saw major redevelopment taking place on both sides of Birch Street between I-5 & US 120 with large office buildings going up (including One Media Place) while also developing hundreds acres along Riverside Dr/Pinecrest Ave which forms part of today's Town Center

Auburn, California was founded in 1871 by George C. Warren and is located on the Kern River. The city was named after Auburn, England where Warren had been born in 1837. In 1912, the City of Auburn merged with the County of Los Angeles to form a single county. On September 14, 2015, voters approved Measure M which will annex part of neighboring Orange County as well as increase funding for schools in the city by $5 million per year from 2016-2020. The history of Auburn starts with its first inhabitants who were Native American traders and travelers who settled along the Kern River between today’s downtown and what is now North Hollywood. Their meeting place is still known today as Pioneer Square which is located near Main Street and Fourth Avenue. In 1851, following gold discovery near Sutro Heights in San Francisco Bay Area, several prospectors started traveling downriver to find this valuable resource before it became available to white men. In 1857 Emperor Juan Carlos I granted Rancho La Brea to James Fenton for his own use and development including building a ferry landing at present day Donner Lake that would allow him access togolden nuggets being shipped downriver from Sutro Heights all the way upriver to his new rancho on January 24th of that year! During the 1850s there were over 20 miners living and working at Donner Gold Rush location but only 2 families remain alive today; one is buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery while the other live in nearby Livermore (now Livermore Valley). Many others lost their lives during this time when an avalanche followed a crew working atop Donner Peak during winter conditions resulting in 5 deaths plus many injured! The company town built around Donner Lake consisting of huts for workers (the so-called “Hooverville”), stores, post office (1860), blacksmith shop (1862), hotel (1864) and doctor’s surgery/hospital (1868) soon gave way to more residential areas developed around railroad lines connecting Oakland with San Francisco across Durant Road – later shortened into Freeway 70 or simply Highway 10. Despite numerous fires starting within these buildings due largely to faulty construction techniques employed during those early years lumber prices continued to rise making wooden frame homes becoming increasingly common until World War II when aluminum became more prevalent due various wars throughout Southern California – finally ending with The Great Depression when most people could no longer afford such luxury housing stock anymore despite efforts by developers including Prefontaine Capital Management LLC., owner of current Levi Strauss & Co., General Motors Plant #2 south east of downtown Pasadena!
