Gun magazines in Atwater, California have a long and varied history. They first appeared in the early 1800s, when guns were still consideredCategory 3 items, which meant they were not allowed to be owned by anyone other than the military or law enforcement. Magazines became more common after 1851, when California state law made it possible for individuals to own firearms. The first mags in Atwater were called "Atwater Rifle & Pistol", and they were published by John Prentice at his shop on Main Street. The first handguns in Atwater were also printed with magazine issues of rifle ammunition. These pistols would fire rounds from revolvers that had been bored out to accept pistol cartridges. For example, rifle magazines became popular with handguns because they could hold more rounds than handgun magazines. In 1872, Jno Prentice organized a meeting of gunsmiths and armorers at the Masonic Lodge on Third Street in downtown Atwater to discuss ways to improve shooting techniques. This was the beginning of what would become known as the Gunnery Club movement. After this meeting, many gunsmiths began creating their own magazine designs and printing them on their own presses using paper available at local stores and businesses like Jno Prentice's shop. By 1876, all major newspapers in America carried notices advertising new club meetings being held at various locations around the country featuring famedgunsmiths from all over America contributing their latest innovations in firearm design! As Magazine Printing technologies improved during the 1870s and 1880s - especially through processes such as lithography - so too did gun magazine printing techniques used throughout North America including Inland Empire (Los Angeles County), San Joaquin Valley (Oakland County), Northwest Territory (Oregon Territory), Great Lakes region (Michigan Territory) etc... All these printings methods utilized a variety of colors lithography which gave rise to colorful images that can still be seen today across issue covers for some of our most well-known firearm magazines including American Rifleman(now Sporting Arms Journal), Field & Stream(nowField & Stream rifles&ammunition.), NRA Record Herald(now NRA Record Herald Ammunition.),and many others!

In 1868, Atwater incorporated as a city, and on December 12th of that year, the first election for Mayor was held. The incumbent mayor at the time was Fenton Dutton. On November 25th of 1870, Atwater became an unincorporated community when it merged with nearby Hanford to form Hanford City. On October 1st of 1873, the last post office closed in the town.

The city was founded by American Civil War veteran and landowner George Atwater in 1847 as an outpost on Rancho Atwater. It became a Californio town under Mexican rule before becoming part of the United States after Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821. The city name came from its founder's discovery of gold in nearby Sutter Butte during his 1861 exploratory trip through what is now California. The original downtown area is still home to many businesses and residences dating back to early years of the city's existence. Many notable residents have lived or worked here including: General John J. Pershing (USA), Hollywood film producer Samuel Goldwyn (American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award recipient), Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen (Microsoft Vice President for Corporate Affairs) and entrepreneur Elon Musk (@elonmusk). The current version of Atwater began to form around 1940 when landfill operations opened up along portions of Highway 101 which had been owned by Pacific Gas & Electric Company since it was leased from secular Mission Dolores owners who were also opponents of annexation into San Francisco proper by San Francisco City fathers seeking control over all public lands east of Market Street within blocks bounded only by Polk, Harrison and Geary Streets - with much smaller lots lying between these streets for fire protection purposes only! Some maps date this earliest development back to about 1915-1916 due to construction work at various sites associated with PEG&E's new powerline/pipeline project that ran parallel south from Stanford University across Park Avenue into downtown - just south of today's Civic Center Parkway! A few weeks ago I walked one block northeast from my home on Polk Street where I lived until 1924 - just north past today’s Regional Library down some steps inside old PEG&E property occupied then by modern day Kaiser Aluminum Building #5 & 6! All told, there are more than 100 buildings older than 50 years old situated throughout downtown areas near buses & BART (& even farther away!) In fact, if you walk starting at Masonic Temple on Montgomery Street northwest toward Polk Street you will soon reach what used to be called “Downtown Heights” although not anymore because most recent high-rise development has taken place there since that area was renamedenergized walking mall which surrounds historic Downtown business districts...virtually everything having automotive service or commercial uses now just drives off largescale parking lots close to busy intersections instead! To think how things must have looked when these developments were first taking shape over a century ago when our historical Downtown included several blocks NW cornering Market St between Montgomery & Polk streets)...just prior to major changes brought about by World War II when much less developed geographically adjacent neighborhoods like Hunters Point got slapped with serious zoning laws designed NOT TO ALLOW BUSINESSES OF ANY KIND ON DOWNTOWN HIGHLIGHTS CLOSE TO QUIET PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURES like POLK AND MARKET STREETS!! Atwater is part of the Sierra Nevada foothills region and was founded by Mormon settlers in 1847. The town grew slowly until the early 20th century when it became an agricultural center for growing grains and other crops. In 1926, Atwater incorporated as a city, but experienced few changes until the late 1940s when the town's economy shifted to oil production and diversification. Theodus Valley Elementary School opened in 1955 and has beenakhty serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade since that time. Today, Atwater is home to many businesses including two hospitals (Hacienda Medical Center & Kaiser Permanente) as well as several churches including our own LDS chapel which first opened in 1954. Atwater has always been a community led by its residents with active involvement in all aspects of their lives - from providing civic services such as street cleaning to support local schools to running their own businesses or organizations. This participatory culture has helped make Atwater one of the most vibrant towns in eastern Inyo County - both economically and socially - while also preserving some of its unique historical landmarks like Our Lady Of Fatima Chapel which is open to visitors year-round and remains one of the only places where you can still see evidence of regular Holy Mass services during those days before television replaced them altogether.
