Atascadero is a small town in Bakersfield, California. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Atascadero Creek and has a ZIP code of 97604. The first Europeans to visit Atascadero were the Franciscans who founded Mission San Francisco de Asís in 1769. The mission was abandoned in 1821 after Mexican forces sacked it during the Alta California War. A year later, an American military detachment under General Antonio López de Santa Anna destroyed Mission San Francisco de Asís while retreating from Mexico City. In 1824, José Joaquín Mora y Gasset built a rancho called Rancho Los Olivos within present-day Atascadero creek's boundaries; this became part of Rancho Laguna Santa Margarita when that grant was sold to ranchers James Hance and Manuel Nieto in 1882. In 1854, gold rush miners discovered gold near what is now Atascadero Creek; by 1860, over 20 mines had been developed there. The townsite was platted as Atascaderosville in 1865 by Wm. Barton & Co.; it was renamed Atascadero in 1870 by Captain John Sutter for Samuel Paley, then owner of Rancho Laguna Santa Margarita north of townline (now along Interstate 5). In 1889, citrus production began with the planting of trees around what are now downtown streets and gardens; By 1920 citrus output totaled 2 million pounds per year statewide. The Early Californians used wooden boats to transport goods down what is now AtascadERO Creek between La Jolla and Bakersfield; these days only small irrigation canals carry water to farmland east of townline (the Lower North Valley) from High Desert reservoirs west of townline (the Upper North Valley). On 9 November 1850 USGS rangers named three creeks flowing intowhat are now Downtown Streets: Arroyito Creek (northwest), Coyote Creek (southwest), and Los Olivos Creek (southeast); they called this area Rincon del Diablo because Spanish speakers found antimony ore hereabouts sandwiched between two hills – today known as Rincon la Antigua or Hill 6361 about one mile southeast of downtown on Highway 101B.) Today residents call this area "Atascado" because some early pioneers lived thereabouts."

In early 1892, George Morse and William Fenton developed an airgun that could shoot pellets through a tube. This gun was called the "Morse Gun." The first successful shooting of pellets with this gun took place in 1893.
Atascadero, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. Atascadero is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and is bordered by Tulare County to the north, Merced County to the east, and Stanislaus County to the south. The first Europeans to visit Atascadero were Spanish missionaries in 1821. They built a Mission San Gabriel de Asís near what is now downtown Atascadero while they traveled upriver from Bakersfield. The mission was abandoned in 1845 and its land became part of Rancho Los Nietos--the largest Mormon farmlands in California. In 1853, Mexican traders founded Rancho Atascaderos y Las Casas near present-day downtown AtascadERO after finding gold there. The Mineville tunnel ran through rancho las casas for transportation of goods and people overland from nearby mountains to Stockton before being replaced by an underground railroad in 1867. In 1863, Gold Rush fever struck Atascadero as miners flooded into neighboring towns looking for rich veins of gold. By 1865, most of the original buildings had been destroyed by fire or demolition during this period known as "The Great Fire". In 1870, John Sutter arrived inAtascadorO with his new company of Native Americans called the Hetch Hetchy Company because he thought he could find water source beyond Yosemite National Park that would enable him to extend his empire into other parts of California. After several failed attempts starting around 1880, Sutter finally succeeded with draining Lake Tahoe which made it possible for him to build his great mine at Crystal City about 25 miles west of Sacramento where he began extracting silver and gold ore on November 1st 1890 (now Goodyear Airport). His operation continued until it closed down on January 15th 1912 due largely to high costs associated with engineering projects undertaken during World War I including building an artificial lake aboveground that became known as Lake Tahoe – one reason why it has been generally considered one of America’s greatest mining failures ever! Lake Oroville Dam Construction: On February 17th 2013 US Army Corps Of Engineers started construction on North American Water Authority's (NAAW) North Oroville Dam replacement project involving blasting and excavation under Lake Oroville reservoir adjacent thereto which will result in increased flooding hazard downstream along Feather River corridor impacting communities located between Oroville Dam site upstream from Feather River Lockage Area and NAAW Site downstream from both locksages sites
