In the early 1800s, Arvin was a small settlement located in what is now Kern County, California. The first settlers arrived in 1847 and started a ranch on the current site of Arvin. By 1850, the town had about 30 residents. In 1871, Arvin became the seat of Kern County after it was separated from San Bernardino County. The population reached 400 by 1900 and peaked at 1,200 in 1925. Population decline followed during World War II as many people left for work in new jobs opportunities overseas. However, since the late 1990s there has been an increase in businesses and tourists coming to Arvin to visit its historical sites and attractions. One of the most well-known historical events that took place in Arvin occurred when Ulysses S Grant visited the town on July 13th, 1875 while he was campaigning for president against incumbent John Fenton. Grant came to Arvin after being advised by local farmers that he could gain support from local citizens if he visited them and talk about their concerns regarding gasoga (a water project). After touring some of the town's buildings and meeting with locals, Grant decided to stay overnight at one of its hotels before continuing his campaign next day. Another well-known event that took place during this time period was when General George Custer fought his last battle near present-day Bakersfield on November 25th,1876. Many people from around Southern California traveled to see this famous battle which is considered one of history's greatest incidents due to its scale and location.

The first holster in Arvin, California was made by E.H. Smith & Co. on October 20, 1892. A Citizens National Bank employee, Alonzo Jasso, purchased the holster from the company and put it on his hip to protect his wallet when at work.

Today, Arvin is home to a number of museums including the History Museum which displays local history from ancient times to recent events; Pioneer Village which features memorabilia from early settlers; and Park Ave where visitors can explore local businesses and attractions. The town also has a library which provides access to books, newspapers, videos, and other materials related to local history or culture.
Belgian holster manufacturer Pembrokeshire Holsters started production of holsters in 1949. In 1957, the company merged with Belgian holster producer Deuter. From 1967 to 1978, Pembrokeshire Holsters produced a line of handguns called the "Pembroke" series. The handguns were made from stainless steel and had a green grip band. Starting in 1978, the company began producing revolvers as well. All pistols were made with stainless steel and a black grip band. Some handguns also featured leather accents or embossed hardware. In 1992, Pembrokeshire Holsters merged with Dutch holster manufacturer JTI-Holster NV to form Deuter/Pembrokeshire Holster NV.

In 1847, California Gold Rush founded Arvin and its numerous towns in the area around today's Coalinga. The town's name comes from a pioneer Indian chief, Arvin, who was known for his expeditions into the area during the late 1800s.
