Arvin, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. It is about an hour's drive from Fresno and about two hours from Sacramento. The town was founded in 1887 by brothers John and George Arvin. In 1930, it became part of the city of Fresno. Arvin has a population of about 16,000 people. The town beganproducing shell ammunition in the early 1800s. By 1850, Arvin had become one of the largest contributors to United States productionof artillery shells and shot. Its product helped secure victory at Buena Vista Heights during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). The company also manufactured rifle rounds for use with firearms until 1860 when percussion caps became common because they could be fired more than once per minute with rifles using black powder cartridges. In 1892, George Arvin died suddenly and his brother John took over management of the business; under his direction, production increased rapidly until 1901 when he sold it to J&H Simms Ammunition Company which continued to produce military ammo under its own name until 1912 when it merged into Armour & Co., Incorporated products were produced by Armour & Co., Incorporated through 1896 as Armour Ammunition Corporation At first all arms ammunition was made from muzzleloaders only though muzzleloader producers such as Wm Hargrave & Sons Ltd., White Sands Ammunition Corp., Remington Arms Company etc went out of business during World War 1 because there was no alternative source for supply other than foreign sources where contraband led to high prices for munitions onworld markets

Arvin is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area. The first European to set foot in Arvin was Lorenzo de' Medici on October 15, 1769. He and his brother Giacomo founded a Mission San Miguel Arcángel (now known as the Catholic Archdiocese of Bakersfield) here about that time. In 1821, Arvin post office was established with the name Villa del Rancho de los Reyes Assisitencia Grande (later renamed Arvin). Juan Bautista Alvarado served as its first postmaster. On December 12, 1840, Arvin became an incorporated city when it became one of Kern County's seven original townships. It was named after José Ortega y Gasset who had platted what is now downtown Arvin in 1836-37 and donated land for the town site; it extended east on US 101 from present day Main Street to what is now River Road. At that time there were only two churches in town - Our Lady of Fatima Parish which stood on present day Main Street and St Joseph's Cathedral which stood near Broadway Boulevard north of present day North Avenue; both were built by French Baptist missionaries around 1850-1860s under the auspices of Bishop Basil Gomez with assistance from Father Francisco Chavez who had been sent touster Mexico City by Pope Pius IX over ecclesiastical objections against Mexican Independence In 1892 much controversy arose about whether or not to change the name from "Arvin" to "Bakersfield". A vote failed 6-2 to change it but because no other municipality within Kern County had adopted this policy then all future cities would be given this new name without any opportunity for petitioning for reversal or change thereafter! A much later act by Mayor Harry Jaffe gave jurisdiction over city services including fire protection, public health and libraries etc., to Kern County instead of just being handled by the various individual municipalities through regulations passed annually at county council meetings called "the commonwealth." This Act also provided for Arlington Heights (then unincorporated adjacent community), south side streets leading into downtown bordered by main street running northerly & southwesterly & river road running easterly
When the first muzzleloaders appeared in the 18th century, they were able to fire a number of different types of rounds. Arvin, California is a small town located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of Los Angeles County. The history of Arvin is long and varied. The first settlers in what is now Arvin were white men who came to the area around 1849 as part of the Gold Rush. One of these men, George Wickersham, erected a cabin on what is now Main Street. Three years later, Wickersham’s brother-in-law built another cabin on what became Ridge Road. Over time these cabins grew into homes for many families who made their way to Arvin during the early years of ranching in this region. In 1876, four brothers started a cotton gin in downtown Arvin and soon began to produce large quantities of cotton for local merchants and others in the area. By 1915, there were over 20 businesses operating in downtown Arvin with an average weekly business output totaling $1,500 . During World War I, Arvin played an important role as both a military base and civilian airport due to its location near Scripps Ranch (now La Jolla). Additionally it was home to 4 Army Airfields: Valley Field (later Camp Edwards), Kelly Field (later Rucker Field), Downey Army Air Base (later Kingsbury Air Force Base) and finally Beale Air Force Base which closed down in 1959 after being used by Boeing Aircraft Corporation as their experimental production plant for developing new airplanes!
