Artesia, California is a small town located in the Kern County of Southern California. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Artesia were the Anza Party of Missionaries who arrived here in 1842. By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in the town. The name "Artesia" comes from an Apache word meaning "a place where good water can be found." In 1871, a large oil well was drilled near Artesia and production began. This led to an increase in population and development around the well site. By 1905, Artesia had a school andangery, two churches (one Episcopal and one Methodist), four businesses (not all of which survive today), six streets with residences on them (named after leaders or pioneers from Artesian history), two post offices (1893-1904 and 1916-present), two hotels (1905-present), three telephone companies serving the area (!=Telephone Company No.), five plazas or squares downtown, nineteen churches and chapels (including one now closed due to fire damage) - more than any other community in Kern County during that time period! In 1915, when Interstate 5 was built through southern Kern County%, most of what is now Downtown Artesia was destroyed by a severe flash flood caused by heavy rains upstream. Only a few homes survived including those on Fifth Street which still stand today as part of downtown's mixed use district designation. However much of what is now Pioneer Plaza did not go up because it was levelled when I-5 was built over it; instead it became University Park which hosts many campus buildings such as UCLA's Royce Hall / Haas School of Business & Economics and Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory adjacent to both museums within Pioneer Plaza - making it one of LAUSD's largest campuses outside LAX! It should also be noted that although much has changed since then - Downtown Artesian citizens are still some of the hardest working people around! They have kept their spirit alive despite some tough times throughout these recent years...

A few months later on February 14th1920 at 6 AM EST (), New York City's then Mayor Thomas Fenton announced that all handgun purchases must now be done through State Police Departments instead due to budget cuts mandated by New York State Governor James Mott (). effectively ending all handgun sales outside of California since those states were exempted from state regulation under federal law at this time (). On March 3rd 1920 New York resumed unrestricted gun sales pursuant to its prior agreements with California pursuant to which these states had been exempted from federal regulation pending repealof federal law
