By 1920 Artesia had reached its current size with a population nearing 10,000 people- making it one of America's fastest growing cities during this era! Today Artesia continues to be a vibrant cultural center full of creativity and innovation economy fueled by its strong university infrastructure as well as its location within walking distance of many downtown businesses including galleries, restaurants, bars & nightlife options as well as public library services & statewide educational opportunities including UC Berkeley & Caltech Campus!

Artesia's history dates back to 1871 when Mormons arrived in what is now Artesia from Nauvoo, Illinois. They built a cabin on the mesa and soon started farming the region. In 1881, they erected a school building which still stands today. The community continued to grow until World War II when it was destroyed by enemy fire. After the war, many residents left for other parts of California due to economic conditions and changes in American society. However, a small group of Utah Mormons stayed behind and continue to live there until their death in 1978.
