From what is now Colusa Mesa he took out a small stream which ran through his property before emptying into Godwin's Wells Reservoir about a mile east of where he settled today on what are now Antelope Hills Road (northwest side) and Upland Drive (southwest side). Captain Olivas had two assistants: José Antonio Vargas who worked with him at Colusa Mines from 1849 until his death in 1855; Pedro Romero also worked there from 1849 until 1860 when he joined Vargas at Pico Colorado mines near present-day Visalia before returning to work at Colusa Mines with him again from 1861 until 1865 when he died there also aged 60 years old; Gaspard Vidaurret who accompanied him as doctor with permission from General Mariano Castro on March 25th 1863 while they were crossing over Sonoma Valley via San Francisco Bay; Carlos Ruiz Estrada who did some adelantado work nearby including Topaz Hill (now known as Coombs Hill) northeast of Arroyo Mesa; Rafael Palouzco who operated a mill northwest of present day Antelope Hills Road between 1870-1871 when it closed due to low profits but reopened again soon afterwards under different ownership until it burned down about 1888 or 1889; Manuelito Crespo whose mill produced flour for local markets until it stopped operating about 1890 although it continued producing bricks for Arroyo Grande schoolhouses until 1915; Justus Sutter’s son Jedediah Sutter opened up another store called Wagon Wheel opposite Malibu Pier about 1895 or 1896 selling goods such as saddles, harnesses & sleighs etc.; Store manager Charles Goodyear arrived circa 1898 along with other entrepreneurs including Sylvester Goodyear & Jens Christensen who opened up an ice cream parlor adjacent to Wagon Wheel soon thereafter The first post office opened in Cucamonga on December 7th, 1848.
