In 1916, the company became known as the "Father of Airguns." The Father of Airguns was J.B. Stevens who developed the first air rifle in America in 1892. He also invented the shotgun and created one of the most successful firearms companies in history. In 1922, Stevens merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington-Stevens Corporation which continued to produce quality firearms until 1986. During its time as a subsidiary of Remington Arms Company, Arroyo Grande Factory produced over 1 million pieces of firearms including shotguns, rifles, handguns and even machine guns. Today, maintainance and exhibition facilities remain open at the factory where visitors can explore site artifacts and learn about American airgun history.

The town also became home to one of history's largest concentration camps during World War II – Auschwitz–Birkenau. Despite this difficulty, Arroyo Grande continued to thrive through the war years and turned itself into an important center for post-war reconstruction in California.
Arroyo Grande is a small, rural community located in Kern County, California. The town is situated on the border of Kern and Bakersfield Counties and has a population of about 2,000 people. Arroyo Grande was founded in 1887 by Mexicans who emigrated from Zacatecas state, Mexico. The name Arroyo Grande comes from the word arroyo, meaning stream or rivulet. The economy of Arroyo Grande is mostly agricultural with some light industrial activity. There are few businesses in town other than stores and services that support the local farming industry. Agriculture accounts for almost all of the employment in the community and most incomes here are generated through crop production rather than sales or service work. The biggest employer in town is the Kern County Agricultural Department which employs over 200 people full-time at its three facilities across the county. Most residents here are Hispanic (of Mexican descent), but there are also a number of Anglo (English) residents as well as several dozen African Americans who have moved into Arroyo Grande since it became an Americanized settlement following World War II. Most residents here originally came from central Zacatecas and southern Guerrero; however, many recent immigrants have come from various parts of Mexico as well as Latin America. Arroyo Grande is located within close proximity to both Kern County’s Inland Empire and Bakersfield County’s Fresno Valley – two regions with high concentrations of Hispanics living near black populations that have served as magnets for Latinos seeking jobs and housing opportunities during this period of rapid transformation in American society.

The Arroyo Grande Massacre took place on November 17, 1846, when a group of Native Americans in the area were attacked by a party of California cattlemen led by Captain George Armijo. The Indians killed nine men and five women and children, as well as Sergeant John C. Fremont, who was leading the attack.
