Arcata, California is a small town in central California. It's the seat of Butte County. The population was 15,594 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the shores of Lake Oroville and contains part of Yosemite National Park. The first Europeans to visit Arcata were fur traders from Russia in 1842. They named it "Siberia" because of its location on the Siberian Mainland. A post office was established in 1847, but no one lived there until 1872 when John C.
