In 1923, the state of California purchased all of the remaining land in Arcadia and annexed it into San Bernardino County. In 1987, parts of Arcadia were designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site because of their historical significance as a center for agriculture and industry in SouthernCalifornia during the early 21st century
