In 1922, two men named Harry Cramer and Milton Siegel started selling eyeglasses at their store called Thesunglasses on Third Street in Arcadia. At first, these glasses were only meant for children but soon became popular among adults as well. These glasses were designed specifically for looking at close up images and because they had a round face design, they were easily mistaken for sunglasses even if someone did not own any sunglasses at that time! Arcadia, California is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 5,858 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Sacramento River and is a bedroom community for downtown Los Angeles. The name comes from an olden days Spanish word meaning "Valley of Arcadia". The first white person to live in Arcadia was José Gomez in 1847. A post office called Arcadia was established in 1853, and the town began to take form as a village around 1860. In 1867, General Cahuenga moved his rancho (land grant) to what is now Arcadia from Tulare County and founded Rancho Niguel near present-day Fullerton. In 1881, John Sutter opened up what became known as Sutter's Land east of hometown of Visalia and developed it into the largest agricultural land grant ever given out in California. This area now includes much of eastern Kern County with some portions extending into San Bernardino County. Arcadian citizens pushed for annexation by Los Angeles because they felt they needed more educated people within their own town limits than were available outside Loop 1 through Redlands Boulevard and other main thoroughfares. After many delays due to lack of funding, annexation finally occurred on February 17, 1911 when city voters approved a resolution calling for the incorporation of Arcadia into Los Angeles proper via referendum two weeks later. On November 3rd 1922 voters passed Proposition 8 which repealed all anti-immigration laws existing at that time including those governing immigration by race or religion
