Arcadia, California is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,654 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Arcadia is located on the central coast of San Joaquin County and straddles the East Bay of San Francisco Bay to its north. The name "Arcadia" comes from Greek mythology and means "theadora", or "(northern) limit of Paradise." In 1871, Byron Harker founded what would become Arcadia Farms near present-day Arcadia after purchasing 6 acres (2 ha) of land east of Mulholland Drive in what is now Westwood Village. Harker named his farm Arcadian because it resembled features in classical antiquity. In 1882, entrepreneur John Wickersham bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land southwest of Arcadia and adjacent to present-day Hollywood Boulevard and built a small community called Hollywood Heights which he named for his then-wife Helen Vendrell's childhood home in nearby Ontario Township. Wickersham hoped that by creating an enclave for himself within a larger city he could distance himself from political corruption and business practices that had polluted other parts of downtown Los Angeles. By 1886, Hollywood Heights had developed into what is now known as Koreatown due to its concentration of Korean immigrants who worked in Wickersham's largest storerooms on Highland Avenue between First Street and Vine Street

After World War II ended,rotating shotguns again regained popularity due to their simplicity and ease of use. However, this time around there was an upsurge in shootings involving these firearms because people found them more convenient than traditional handguns. This led to several tragedies during the 1960s and 1970s when individuals mistook rotate-based shotguns for handguns and shot innocent victims who had no idea what they were dealing with. Arcadia, California is a small town located in Sonoma County, California. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It lies on the right bank of the Napa River and is northeast of San Francisco. The name comes from Ancient Greece and means "the pleasant land". The first Europeans to explore this area were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party in 1776. They named it Arcadia because of its clear sky and green valleys. In 1836, John Cranch moved to Arcadia from Stockton, California with his family. He used to say that he felt like he had found his paradise here. After years of hard work he founded the United States post office at Arcadia in 1847. By 1850, Arcadian sheep had started being grazed on nearby Mount Diablo which began promoting agriculture hereabouts as well as providing fresh water for people and plants in what would become known as the North Coast wine country. In 1853, when General Augustus Hasler organized a military expedition called the Bear Flag Campaign against Mexican forces under Santa Anna near Petaluma, north of Sonoma County boundaries then included much of what is now Marin County, he ordered Major George Armstrong Culp (1814-1881) commanding one brigade of Ulysses S Grant's Division III Corps to move through Arcadia northwest on May 25th along US 101 about 12 miles east-northeast of where it exists today parallel to it about 8 miles wide north-south with an intervening clay Hillsock Valley about 3/4 mile wide at its widest point thence by easy ascent or descent over a short distance southeastwardly into Livermore Valley among other places near Sebastopol (now part of Redwood City) The Ulysses S Grant Column passed through Arcadia just before dark on May 26th 1865 while troops under General James Halleck were attacking General Emiliano Zapata's force at Pueblo del Rio southwest of San Jose In 1901 there were some 300 residents living in ARCADIA & surrounding areas when incorporation papers were filed with Registrar’s office; business was conducted out door but inside did not go very far until 1907 when large additions were made such as Opera House & Schoolhouse which still stands today
Arcadia was founded in 1868 as a small town on the edge of Los Angeles. By 1912, it had become one of the most important citrus growing areas in California. In 1916, Arcadia became part of the City of LA and experienced rapid growth. The city annexed Arcadia in 1923 and renamed it after its founder, George Washington Carver. From then until 1973, Arcadia was an unincorporated community within the city limits of LA.
