One of the most famous residents of Arcadia was actress Fannie Hurst who lived in a log cabin on Big Meadows for more than 20 years before moving into an older house that still stands today on Elm Road near Center School. During World War II, many people worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation located just east of town along I-5 south of Bakersfield. Many veterans from World War II gathered around Town Hall Square to listen to lectures about Lockheed's products while they ate their lunch outside. After the war ended, many people left for new jobs in California but some stayed behind to start businesses such as Apple Incorporated which remains headquartered there today with over two hundred employees!
