Arcadia, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 23,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Arcadia were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The town was founded by Captain John Sutter and his party on October 12, 1846 as a rancho (land grant) from Mexican Governor Felipe de Jesús Bolsa. The town grew rapidly with cross-country wagon road access and numerous agricultural investments that led to its incorporation as a city in 1912. The City of Arcadia was founded on October 12, 1912 when it was merged with the towns of San Jacinto and Pomona following an election held that year in which all three towns had voted Yes to incorporation into Arcadia under one city government. In 1916, the City of Arcadia annexed the villages of Antelope Valley and Fillmore Valley which lay east of its boundaries. In 1955, the city annexes Alhambra Hills which lies within its borders but has no connection to or relationship with Arcadian history or culture beyond simply being within its limits; nor does it contribute financially or physically to the civic fabric of the city. This decision effectively severedArcadia's ties both culturally and economically to neighboring municipalities

Arcadia, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located about 20 miles northeast of Fresno and 50 miles northwest of San Francisco. The first people to live in Arcadia were the Costanos who arrived from Spain around 1849. They built their home on what is now the east side of I-5 near milepost 54.9. The Costanos were followed by the Humboldt Puritans who arrived around 1853. The Humboldt Puritans were led by John Atherton and they built a small church on what is now Main Street. The first post office was established in Arcadia in 1856, and it was called Post Office Hill because it sat atop a hill that overlooked Arcadia proper. Arcadia grew rapidly during the early years of its existence as a community due to its location, natural resources, and friendly residents. In 1870, Arcadian merchants founded the First National Bank which became one of America's biggest banks until it merged with Jardine Matheson Securities in 1978. By 1900, Arcadia had over 1,000 businesses and 100 families living within its boundaries. During World War II,Arcadia played an important role as an military supply center due to its location at the junction of I-5 (the "Highway 99" corridor) and State Route 99 (the "Valley Highway"). This connection allowed for easy access to materiel needed for war efforts throughout much of North America . In 1945, following World War II's end,Arcadia experienced rapid growth as new development began to take hold across central Valley communities such as Fresno and Madera Canyonountains such as Salinas Lake Countyand Tehama County.. However, by 1970s ARCADIA had reached its peak population levels with over 6500 residents living within city limits alone
Arcadia was founded in 1847 by Captain James W. Marshall, a fur trader and explorer. The town developed around theMarshall Ranch, which became a center for cattle ranching and mining in the early 19th century. A post office was established at Arcadia in 1853, and the first store opened in 1856. In 1861, Arcadia became one of three towns located on the Santa Fe Railway line. The rest of California joined the Union during the American Civil War, and Arcadia remained an independent city until it incorporated as a city on April 14, 1912.
