Arcadia, California is a small town in the Santa Clarita Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It straddles the border of Orange County and Ventura County. The population was 12,674 at the 2010 census. The name "Arcadia" may be derived from two Spanish words meaning "peaceful place." The first reference to Arcadia was in 1785 when Captain José Manuel García de Apodaca wrote about his travels through the area as part of his journal entry for that year. In 1821 Juan Bautista de Anza founded an Anglo-American colony in what is now Arcadia with land that he purchased from Mission San Fernando Rey (later known as missions Santa Catalina and El Camino Real). The community became officially incorporated on December 14, 1923. It was named after Hermes Trismegistus who lived in ancient Greece and is sometimes considered to be the founder of modern mythology. Arcadia soon became a popular retirement spot for Hollywood celebrities due to its peaceful setting and lack of traffic congestion. Many famous people have lived or worked here including Will Rogers, Orson Welles, Beverly Garland, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis Presley.

In 1907, firearm manufacturer Colt began producing commercially available "fireman" hats made from felt and cloth with metal bosses at the front. The hats became popular among law enforcement personnel and others who needed a head covering that would not attract attention. In 1934, Winchester Repeating Arms Company introduced its own version of a fireman hat called the "Barrett"Hat. The design was based on the USAAF pilot's helmet worn by American fighter pilots during World War II. Many different companies produced firearms-related hats over the years. Some of these include Browning Arms & Ammunition (1929), Colt (1934), G&A Manufacturing Co.(1935), Parker Hannifin Corporation (1936), Remington Arms Corporation (1937), Smith & Wesson Firearms Inc.(1938) and Winchester Repeating Arms Company(1945).

Arcadia is a small town in the Central Valley of California, located about 65 miles (100 km) northeast of Sacramento and just east of the San Joaquin Valley. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The first residents were Anglo-Mexican settlers who arrived in 1881. Spanish missionaries had founded Arcadia in 1821 on an uninhabited island in what is now Stockton Bay. In 1850, gold was discovered near Oroville and early prospectors traveled to Arcadia to stake out Claim No. 2 (now known as Independence Avenue). The town prospered due to its location and easy access to water supplies from nearby rivers and creeks. In 1907, Arcadia incorporated as a city under state law. By 1920, it had reached its peak with a population of 30,000 people; however, by 1930 the city's size had decreased to 10,000 citizens due to various factors including growing suburban development around it. Economic decline began during World War II when production for war materials crashed and output sank below expectations; however, downtown businesses kept afloat thanks to government subsidies that helped keep prices down for consumers goods such as friends or family dinners served at local restaurants). A major fire destroyed most of downtown Arcadia on Christmas Eve 1934 while many residents were inside their homes watching family photosynthesis take place outdoors on Christmas morning; this event became known as "The Great Fire". Many people lost their homes which still stand today although some have been replaced by new structures over time such as the Municipal Auditorium which replaced an earlier building that burned down in 1978 after being used as an office building for several years until it was purchased by Arcadia Schools District #1 in 2003 and demolished in 2004 following a donation from then-Mayor Donny Hathaway (whose uncle owned land adjacent to the old courthouse whereon the original fire started). Arcadia was founded in 1847 by Capt. George W. Dixon and his wife, Julia C. Dixon. The town originally consisted of only a few families, but it soon began to grow rapidly due to the land's abundance and its location near the main stagecoach route between San Francisco and Sacramento. By 1860, Arcadia had over 100 residents and several businesses such as a post office, store, schoolhouse and Masonic Lodge were built. In 1871, the first road from Arcadia to Los Angeles was completed, making it easier for people to get around. In 1881, Arcadian School became one of the first public schools in Los Angeles County. In 1912, theArcadian-Lancaster Railway was built through Arcadia and made it possible for people in Arcadia and Lancaster County to get access to jobs in nearby cities such as LA and Pasadena. In 1914, Arcadian Theater Company opened its doors with performances throughout Lancaster County. In 1922, General Electric purchasedARCadian Telephone Co., which led to increased phone usage within Arcadyian townships and an increase in business opportunities for arcadyians who needed telephone service outside their homes.
