Scope mounts were first patented in 1911 by George E. Brown and Arthur P. Armstrong. The original scope mounts were made with a screwed-on mounting bracket that could be quickly tightened to hold the rifle's optics in place on the barrel. Eventually, all major firearms manufacturers producedscope mounts variants customized specifically for their products- such as those found on rifles manufactured by AR15/M4 platforms. The commercial center for Apple Valley is its small village square which bustles with activity during business hours including several banks, a post office, two restaurants and several shops including an antique store and a clothing store. There also is a fairground and various playgrounds around the village square. Residents are primarily farmers who grow crops such as apples and almonds; however there are also some ranchers who operate cattle and horses on their properties along with a few stores and businesses providing services such as lawn care and plumbing supplies. The residents enjoy moderate temperatures year-round with average monthly highs ranging from near 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) during winter to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) during summer months; however, occasional cold winters can occur due to snowstorms that move through the valley often bringing wind chill values below 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius). Monthly lows range from near 0 degrees Fahrenheit (−20°C) during fall to just above 41⁄2 inches (−12 centimeters), averaging less than 1 inch (−2 millimeters), throughout most of the year. There are no public schools available within Apple Valley but Booster Club Charter High School offers pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education while Aquarius Elementary School provides kindergarten through 8th grade education while Stranahan Middle School offers 9th through 12th grades education according to state requirements subject to change at any time without notice given prior notice required by law

At one point, over 100 businesses existed in Apple Valley alone! In 1916, when World War I started, many men from Apple Valley went to fight in Europe; however, most residents returned home before war ended. During World War II, much of apple production took place at military sites throughout California due to wartime shortages of other goods- such as food production crops like corn and wheat.
