Apple Valley is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about an hour from Fresno. It was founded by the brothers Joseph and Charles Apple, who were landowners in what is now Fresno County. The town was named after Charles' wife, Clara Barton. The first factory in Apple Valley was built by Wernher von Braun at his new site on theoma road. It produced radios for military use during World War II. After the war, von Braun moved to Huntsville, Alabama to continue his work on space exploration and development of American missiles. In 1962, he purchased a large tract of land east of Apple Valley and began creating a self-sustaining community with housing, industry, education and research facilities. He called it "Island Park". Von Braun died in 1978 but his legacy lives on in Island Park's rich culture and history which has been documented by numerous books and articles over the years.

The store continued to be open until 1954 when it closed due to fire damage. In 1957, the goodspeed ranch was donated to the City of Redding by its owner, Burtis Goodspeed. Apple Valley is a small town in Northern California, located about 20 miles east of San Francisco. The population was just over 10,000 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is surrounded by Contra Costa County to the south and north, Solano County to the east, and Marin County to the west. The name "Apple Valley" originated from an apple orchard that was situated near what is now known as Applecross Road. The orchard was located on a ridge above present-day Applecross Road and produced apples that were exported to other parts of California. The first recorded mention of Apple Valley occurred in 1849 when it was included in a survey made by Lieutenant Colonel John Cranch for purposes of condemning land belonging to Richmond College. At that time, there were only two buildings remaining in present-day Applecross Road: A schoolhouse which served as a courthouse during times such as court appearances, and an old mill which had been converted into a residence. In 1875, James Fenton purchased 4 acres at milepost 5 on Highway 101 from George Wurzbach for $39 per acre; this area became known as Fenton Ranch after him. In 1906, Jens Lehmann purchased 1/4 acre at milepost 7 on Highway 101 from Fenton for $1 per acre; this area became known as Lehman Park after Lehmann. On October 15th, 1916, Apple Valley's first post office opened with three notices capacity - one each forMenlo Park (now Mountain View), Sunnyvale (now Palo Alto), and Petaluma (now El Sobrante). The last notice listed offices at 300–302 Fremont Ave., but these were discontinued shortly afterwards due to lack of customership. On January 3rd 1937, when Route 101 was updated between Menlo Park and Daly City along its current alignment - making it concurrent with US 101 - the old route number 301 no longer applied due to conflicts with new routing! Heinrich Hertz also established his Hertz Rent Car Company here in 1925 out of his Home Automation Laboratory before moving his business operations downriver into Emeryville beginning in 1929 where he continued until his death in 2006 Apple Valley has experienced numerous boom-and-bust cycles throughout its history including being briefly abandoned following World War II before experiencing another period of growth followed by several more busts culminating with annexation by Contra Costa County during the early 1960s when many jobs went away because technology replaced much manufacturing activity within society .
