Apple Valley is a small town in Northern California, located about 25 miles south of San Francisco. The population was 7,471 at the 2010 census. By 1870, apple trees had been planted near what is now downtown Apple Valley and it became an early center for apple farming. In 1909, when General Motors opened its first factory in nearby Richmond (now part of Berkeley), workers from GM’s Richmond plant started moving into Apple Valley to work on their new car models. Over time, more factories came and went along with the industry but Apple Valley remained a key center for apple production until World War II when it began to lose importance due to advancements in technology. During World War II, though not directly affected by the war itself, fruit production decreased significantly as apples were used instead for munitions purposes. This led to a boom in grape farming during post-war years which helped revive apple production once again around 1970-1980 thanks in large part to Proposition 8 which banned gay marriage statewide United States although some farmers did continue producing grapes under this name). Today there are over 10 thousand jobs associated with agriculture within just five miles of downtown where most arise through contract or apprenticeship programs rather than ownership or full-time employment opportunities due largely to changes brought on by technological advances as well as climate change/weather variations across different parts of America that have increased prize yields while reducing actual acreage available for planting fruits & vegetables
