Anderson, California is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California, United States. It is located on the Pacific Ocean near Monterey and Salinas. The population was 438 at the 2010 census. In 1887, Edwin H. Armstrong founded Anderson Hardware Company in Anderson Valley and began selling tools and supplies to farmers in the area. In 1912, he moved his business to a new location on State Highway 1 in central Anderson Valley. In 1951, Armstrong's son-in-law Don Page started a hardware store next door that became known as Page & Page Sales Department. In 1970, DonPage's grandson John Denton bought the store from his father-in-law and continued to run it as JDP Enterprises until it closed in 2000. The first extension of television service to Anderson was with KTTV channel 3 on October 14, 1962 when a broadcast tower was erected at the edge of town for that purpose. The first movie shown in Anderson was "A Star Is Born" on July 15, 1947 by producer William Wyler with supporting performances by local actors including Harry Niven and Shirley Temple. In 1966–1967 renovation of both Union High School (now Pinnacle Peak Middle School) and Skyline Senior High School were completed causing major traffic congestion around town during those years which caused several Businesses to close their doors due to lack of customers or simply because they could not compete against either school system’s prices or quality of services offered by respective businesses owners/managers during this time period .
