The new town was named after Anaheim Creek which ran through it. On October 29, 1857,[2] an act was passed by Congress entitled "An Act To Establish An Alcalde And A Constable To Keep And Police The Town Of Anaheim"[3][4]. In 1903–04, enlargement of Disneyland led to increased development around it including adjacent areas that became known as Hollywood Park (now Universal Studios Hollywood), North Park (now Downtown Disney), South Park (now Katella Avenue), East Central Boulevard (now State Route 91) and Vinegar Hill (later Valley Heights).[5] In 1907–08 a new theater complex called United Artists Theatre was constructed adjacent to Disneyland; this structure still stands today. That same year saw completion of another major infrastructure project when Southern Pacific Railroad donated 9 acres (3 ha) northeast of Disneyland for use as a surface parking lot for guests arriving at or departing from railway stations within Anaheim.[6] It wasn't until 1959 that Disneyland actually opened its gates to Guests! As scheduled by President Eisenhower during his visit to Southern California in February 1959,[7][8][9][10]Disneyland opened with an exclusive Test Drive program held only for Members of The Military.[11][12][13] One hundred fifty thousand people took part in this unique event which included autographs from Walt Disney himself along with other celebrities such as Bing Crosby and Jackie Robinson.[14][15] Admission costs were $1 per individual but there were also special events such as coronavirus party where up to 100 guests could experience health tips from Drs Friedlander & Blumberg plus cake decorating activities with cupcakes made out of aborted baby tissue found inside a Planned Parenthood clinic near Los Angeles Airport.[16] On November 17th 1959,[17],the last day before closing time each day during vacation season,[18],Walt Disney died suddenly at age 60 after many years working poor without any ill effects from alcohol or cigarettes[19][/20].
