At its new plant on 5th Street North between Orange Avenue and Buena Vista Boulevard, Winchester began producing molybdenum-cadmium ammunition using two newly developed technologies – gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for analysis of propellants and electron microscopy for inspection of bullet heads - making it one of the first companies to use these diagnostic methods in an ammunition product. Anaheim's history begins with Rancho Buena Vista de la Purisima which was granted to Manuel Nieto by Governor Pico de La Hoz on November 3, 1821. On October 31, 1823, Nieto sold Obispo land east of present-day Anaheim for US$2 million to John Blyth and James Sutter who founded the City of Sacramento on January 1, 1850. In 1856, 165 acres (61 ha) of what is now Downtown Anaheim was leased from Don Eduardo Bitencourt to Philip Ayerbe and Cahuenga Indians in return for military support during the Mexican–American War. The site became known as Indian Hill because of its high hills. In 1870s an agricultural community developed around what is now Disneyland; it included land that would later become Downtown Anaheim and other parts of Orange County. One of the early settlers in this area was Jens Christensen who purchased 100 acres (40 ha) near Disneyland on February 17, 1870 from José Altuve y Valdez for $10 per acre ($4 per ha). Christensen initialed a deed dated July 21, 1870 with his brother Ole Kirk Christiansen naming their new settlement "Anaheim" after Anna Haglund (1812-1887), one of five daughters born to Norwegian immigrants Ole Kirk Christiansen (1793-1866) and Karen Augusta Larsdotter Heggstad (died 1840). After several years without settlers being allowed onto their property by local authorities due to thickets of cedar trees surrounding the farmstead— primarily caused byModean oak trees that were then still young—Christensen met up with fellow Norwegian settler Anasazi Jack Nicholson on December 12th 1875 while they worked clearing brush near what would later become Pioneer Square in downtown Anaheim; they named their new place «Jack» because Nicholson had just come ashore from his vessel «The Albatross» off San Francisco Bay following his circumnavigation of North America aboard HMS Terror on December 14th
