Today, Anaheim is known for its beautiful parks such as Disneyland and Angel Stadium; for its rich cultural heritage including Mardi Gras (the most popular annual New Orleans celebration) which takes place every February; for its large aerospace industry including Lockheed Martin’s sprawling facility at nearby Fullerton; for being home to some of America’s best entertainment venues such as Honda Center – home to ice hockey games throughout the winter months; and for being sometimes called “The City That Never Sleeps” because so many people live there that nightly streetlights are turned off during Daylight Saving Time so that all guests can get a good night's sleep without any disruptions

The United States acquired it from Mexico in 1846 and named it after General John Sutter, who founded the city on January 30,1847. Anaheim grew quickly due to its location at a port on the San Joaquin River, and its status as a manufacturing center. It was one of eight cities that formed the Orange County melange in 1907. After World War II, Anaheim saw growth in housing and commercial areas, with new shopping malls built throughout the city. The city's economy peaked in the 1960s with a population of over 200,000 people; however, recent increases in crime and traffic have led to declines in both population and economic activity.
