In 1819, Juan Bautista de Anza led a group of Spanish miners and soldiers into this area while searching for new gold mines in Northern California. The first permanent settler in America Canyon was George Hearst who built his home on what is now Hearst Ranch near Canon City Creek in 1828. From here he leased part of Rancho Santa Anita to John Sutter and Jesse Yarnall for their ranch operations along with land aroundpresent-day Pasadena and North Hollywood which became known as Sutterville after him. After hearing about reports from General Mexican Army Captain José Joaquín Sepúlveda that rich mineral deposits existed east of Cinco de Mayo Dam on Mount Wilson (now called Antelope Hill), Hearst organized a party to explore these claims in 1847-48 with mining equipment flown over from Southern California on R&D flights by Selfridge Air Service Company president Arthur Lindbergh Sr.. American Canyon would become one of Humble Oil's principal production areas with surface production totaling 2 million barrels per day by 1954! In 1912 the San Gabriel Valley Improvement District (SGVID) was organized as part of efforts to improve transportation access and development within Los Angeles County through condemnation proceedings against various unoccupied parcels belonging to various landowners within the valley boundaries including Hearst Castle/Hearst Ranch/Canon City Creek Estates/Sutterville etc.. On July 14, 1913 SGVID acquired title to all property eastward Stripes Road from Canoga Park Drive westward to Chavez Ravine River confluence making it fully within our jurisdiction! This acquisition marked an important milestone because it meant that we could begin developing our valley using publicly owned resources rather than depending solely upon individual landowners whose interests may have been at odds with those responsible for developing our community! During World War II much agriculture was conducted within American Canyon Agricultural Land Use District No.#2 which included orchards, vineyards, cotton fields bordering both Canoga Park Drive south and Glendale Avenue north; citrus groves located adjacent thereto; subdivisions east off Canoga park drive between Glendale Ave./Hawthorne Blvd./Pasadena Rd./Fountain Hills Blvd.; subdivisions west off Stripes Road between Pasadena Rd./Rancho Santa Anita Rd./Glendale Ave./Hawthorne Blvd./Fountain Hills Bl
