The next major advance in lasers came about 20 years later with the development of blue/green/near infrared lasers by Hughes Aircraft Company as part of their advanced digital signal processor (ADSP) family. The City of Aliso Viejo was founded on November 3, 1887 by John Waddell and his wife Gertrude Inez Hogue Waddell at an agricultural land grant they received from Rancho Gabriella. On January 8, 1906, Los Angeles annexed Aliso Viejo into that city. The merger created an urban area with a combined population of over 2 million people who now make up nearly 50% of all Angelenos living within Riverside County. In 1957, when Anaheim became Anaheim Hills after being annexed by Anaheim from neighboring Glendale, then-Mayor John Burton proposed annexing Aliso Viejo as well – but only if it were paired with nearby Garden Grove so that both cities could share resources such as transportation and housing. This proposal failed to gain traction among residents because they felt that annexation would mean higher taxes for them while Garden Grove would maintain its current infrastructure without any increase in services expense or tax burden; however, Burton persisted with his idea until he was elected mayoralty winner in 1959 after defeating incumbent Phil La Russa Sr.. In 1963, Burton successfully lobbied the state Legislature to pass Senate Bill No. 6 which granted citizenship (and incorporation) to Aliso VieJO citizens through Act #14063 – making it one of just two UPNAs (Unincorporated Place Names) throughout Southern California granted this type of status statewide during this period; also earning him credit for helping spur development in our community since he saw it as an opportunity to improve infrastructure and opportunities for local businesses while also increasing incomes for many families hereabouts). The City's history can be traced back to 1853 when Rancho San Vicente de las Flores was founded by Manuel Micheltorena and María Elena García on 8/29/1853 Rancho San Vicente de las Flores became part of Mexico City after Californios were expelled in 1848 In 1865 Mexican president Anastasio Aguirre granted Rancho Santa Anita to José Joaquín Cámpora In 1886 James Wickersham patented an additional 1,000 acres (400 hectares) adjoining Rancho Santa Anita In 1912 Mayor William Hahn resigned due to pressure from developers associated with The Irvine Company On July 10th 1913 voters approved Measure T which provided for incorporation as a city by ordinance providing for creationof 4 wards The first election held under ordinance #511 took place on November 3rd 1914 with Josefina Pérez-González elected mayor against incumbent Rufino Ortiz-Flamingo
