The city's name comes from the Palace of Fine Arts which once stood there and had two wings including one that housed a theater named for Don Giovanni (the musical "Don Giovanni" was also created at this palace). The original town site contained only 7 blocks long and 3 blocks wide with no streets or buildings other than some small huts used as stores and dwellings. Sometime after Captain George Hearst's purchase of 640 acres (269 ha) around Alhambra in 1875 he began to build what would become today's downtown area on part of this land including a grand entrance avenue off of Agua Dulce Road known then as Carretera Real de las Palmas de Granada. The completed courthouse complex now stands on part of that property just east of North Park Boulevard between Exposition Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard; across from Terminal 4 at LAX airport where Amtrak provides passenger service daily via theirLoop train services.; The old post office building northeast corner lot facing Broadway still stands (downstairs is now housing the current fire station). In early November 1861 Captains George Hearst and John Halsey chartered vessels USS Constitution and USS Alabama to transport supplies to General Johnston's army fighting against Confederate forces at Bahia Honda Bay Florida; On November 17th 1861 they arrived at Key West Florida about 12 knots under sail with 9 men including Captains Hearst & Halsey only to find out that Federal authorities had already captured Nassau key west - so they abandoned ship without ever reaching their destination; They next attempted to reach St Augustine but were met with fierce Seminole resistance before finally reaching Tampa Bay September 1862; HMS “Zara” 28 days later caught up with Constitution making her first stop at Fernandina Beach Florida before sailing on past Tampa Bay July 1863 bound for Jacksonville Fla.; After stops at New Orleans La., Pensacola Fla.,Mobile Ala.,and Savannah Ga.,they reached Mobile May 1865 en route home sick aboard HMS “Dreadnought” which arrived off Mobile Bay August 24th 1865 just in time for dinner! Today most people think about Alhambra when thinking about Southern California because it is home to Hollywood sign, Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland Resort & more
