Alhambra is a city located in the San Bernardino Valley of Southern California, about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It was founded in 1887 by Mormons. The Mormon leader, George Albert Smith, named it after the Alhambra Palace used by his predecessor as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). During World War II, Alhambra served as the home to two U.S. Army airfields; Edwards Air Force Base and Aliso Viejo Army Airfield. In addition, Alhambra hosted a number of television shows such as "Gunsmoke" and "The Rifleman". After the war ended, many businesses relocated out of town because they were no longer needed due to suburban growth nearby. Today only a few houses remain in the old downtown area and most of what was once an active community has been demolished for new development or retail uses on either side of Interstate 10. In 1984, then-Mayor John Nash established the City's first public park in downtown Alhambra with land donated by local industrialist Morris Krieger Jr.. That same year saw the opening of America's first gun range at Edwards Air Force Base adjacent to city limits – now part of Luke AFB - with handguns drawn from MacArthur Boulevard behind City Hall down into McCourt Park across from City College/University Plaza . Today there are several gun ranges open to the general public located within close proximity to each other throughout central and eastern California; these include: Armand Hammer Gun Club #1 just south off I-10 on Winchester Drive near Redondo Beach; SROF Defense Range just east off Airport Boulevard near Ontario; Malibuguns #1 at 9th Street & Harbor Boulevard south Of Pacific Coast Highway just west off Aviation Blvd.; Desert Hills Gun Club right next door off I-10 exit 44B between Moreno Valley Rd./Valencia Ave./Ontario Rd., and Pico Rivera Guns & Ammo Complex on CR 1050 W outside Industry City Limits

The City of Alhambra is located in the south-central part of the county and borders Contra Costa County to the north. The name comes from Arabic لأم البارقة (al-ḥammarā), meaning "the mosque." It was platted in 1853 by John McLaren as part of Rancho San Francisco de la Cañada del Oro, which he acquired from José Joaquín Cámpora. The town was incorporated on November 15, 1879. Its first postmaster was James Waugh. On February 14, 1888, it became an annex to Contra Costa County and adopted its current name. According to the National Park Service, "Alhambra" derives its name from two incidents that occurred there: on October 9th 1860 when Spanish forces under General Antonio Lopez destroyed some buildings in downtown Alhambra; and on October 25th 1865 when Confederate general Jubal Early attacked Union troops near present-day Woodside Boulevard and Stockton Avenue". Both were fought during the Mexican–American War conflict. Residents of nearby Walnut Creek may also have been influenced by this story because almonds are grown there too. Alameda County is home to a portion of Yosemite National Park including Half Dome and El Capitan as well as Muir Woods Reserve which straddles both counties line with Yosemite Valley lying within Alameda County while Half Dome falls within Contra Costa County bounds between them

The Alhambra Palace was a royal palace in Alhambra, California. It was built in the 1860s for The Queen of Spain and her husband, King Ferdinand IV of Spain. It became the official residence of the Spanish crown in 1875. The original building was designed by Italian architect Giuseppe Nicolini and completed in 1865. After being used as a palace by the Spanish monarchy, it became an American military prison during World War II before becoming a museum in 1957.
