Alhambra, California is the birthplace of firearm hats. The first firearms, such as pistols and rifles, were designed in the area and Alhambra was a center for gunsmithing. In 1892, Captain John Burton of San Diego founded The Gunnery School at what is now called the California State University, Dominguez Hills. In 1896 Captain Burton started manufacturing rifle and shotgun ammunition in Alhambra. Ammunition retailers throughout Southern California began to sell these new products fromCaptain Burton’s store. Many people may not know that Captain Burton also invented the modern sporting clap cap or shooting cap which became popular during World War I as an additional head covering option for military personnel. He also started up a blacksmith shop in Alhambra which became known as The Gunnery Shop & Forge. In 1916 he retired from his Captainship position at The Gunnery School and moved to Alhambra full time to continue making firearms hat products with his son-in-law Harry Laughlin Jr., who had joined him at the school in 1915 when captain Laughlin was its Superintendent of Instruction’s Department of Firearms for Women (now known as SBC Corporation). The Hat Industry took off in America after Captain Burton brought these products over from Europe

The Alhambra Adobe, also known as the Alhambra Adobe Walls, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in western Los Angeles County, California. It is a 630-meter (1,500 foot) wide and 100 meter (330 foot) high structure composed ofadobe walls and adobe roofs. The site was first occupied by the Tongva people in the late 18th century when they built their summer homes on the site. In 1926, the United States government purchased the property from its private owner for $2 million. As part of that deal, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt designated it a national Monument status in 1938. The Adobe Walls are one of several outstanding examples of prehistoric architecture in Southern California and were built about 8300 to 7800 BCE by Native Americans as part of their seasonal encampments near present-day Pasadena and Altadena. Over time, these structures became associated with Spanish colonists who called them El Alcazar or el Tajada because of its dramatic appearance from atop a bluff overlooking downtown Los Angeles. In 1886, architect George Wirtz designed an addition to the alcazar which added two stories to the original design while changing its perspective to become more like a palace than an Indian trading post. In 1925–1926 American president Calvin Coolidge dedicated this new alcazar complex as America's first national monument after he took office following Franklin D Roosevelt's landslide victory over Adlai Stevenson in November 1924. The new name honored Roosevelt's predecessor James K Polk who had died just weeks before his inauguration; however no physical changes were made to reflect Polk's death instead all new signage noted that "this spot has been administered by His Excellency Averell Harriman since 1908". El Alcazar served primarily as America's best opportunity for importing fine Arts Nouveau architecture from Europe during this period because such styles were unavailable within North America at that time; although many other buildings including churches and military posts might have been constructed nearby but not counted towards El Alcazar's listed heritage due to their lack of historical significance.. On July 14th 1990, UNESCO recognized El Alcazar as an Intangible Cultural Heritage under cultural law number 3988/90 thus making it one step closer towards nomination for inclusion into World Heritage Listing permanently!
