Albany, California is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It is the seat of Alameda County and the smallest United States county by land area. DLCA granted Californians exclusive rights to purchase land within present-day Albany and its environs for $5 an acre (2 hectares = 50 meters squared). The original settleradobe nearpresent-day Albany street date back to 1851 when Aiden Booth purchased 1,000 acres (50 ha) southeast of modern day downtown from Juan Bautista Peralta/Donation Land Owner #4 for $10 per acre ($326/ha). In 1870, Augustus Porter bought 8 acres (3 ha) northwest of town for $1 per acre ($8/ha). By 1880, there were over 20 settlers living in and around modern day Albany thanks to government grants and donations; most notably General William Tecumseh Sherman’s donation to rename Oakland after his hometown Chattanooga Tennessee during World War I. In 1898, City Hall moved from Mountain View to Union Square due to increased growth rates throughout Contra Costa County and because City Hall could not meet demand for space inside then-rural Alameda County boundaries created with Proposition 5 proponents' efforts following enactment of that election result supporting annexation into cities statewide under Governor Goodwin Carver's plan known as "Unification". As more people moved into areas annexed into cities such as Albany they needed more infrastructure including water resources available for their growing populations; this resulted in both new construction projects such as a rail line running through town starting west off I-580 just north of town Limits Road before crossing 980 ft elevation highlands northeast splitting town along right bank artery thence continuing due south past today's Livermore BART station before entering eastern Contra Costa County

Albany, California is a city in Alameda County, California. The population was 30,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Alameda County. The name originates from the first European to visit what is now Albany: Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 8, 1542. The City of Albany was incorporated on January 5, 1853 and became part of Oakland when that city was created from parts of Contra Costa and San Mateo counties. On November 9, 1873, Albany joined with Berkeley and other towns in a proposal to become an independent city-state governed by a board of supervisors. But this plan failed to gain support from either the Oakland or Contra Costa communities; instead they amalgamated with Berkeley as part of an attempt to build a new City of Berkeley. In 1877, Albany passed a resolution declaring itself a separate city-state; but it again failed to gain traction with either community. In 1905, during the heyday of American aviation there were proposals for Albany to become one of two commercial airports serving Silicon Valley (the other being San Francisco International Airport). The airport would have been located on the site where present-day Oracle Park stands today and would have offered direct flights into/out of San Francisco International Airport as well as links with cities such as Los Angeles and Sacramento. However these plans never came to fruition due largely to financial problems at the airport which caused traffic jams every time it opened up for business. But things changed in 1978 when then Mayor George Norris announced plans for development around downtown Albany which would create thousands jobs including construction work on what is now Port Bayou parkette adjacent to downtown . This led directly to the current economy which saw growth in both residential properties values along Telegraph Avenue as well as businesses located near downtown - all while creating newresidential housing developments throughout much of eastern Contra Costa County east of Highway 680
Albany was founded by the Spanish in 1792 and named for the Duke of Albany, a member of the Kingsbridge Council. The first permanent resident was José Nieto, who arrived in 1821. In 1846, California claimed Alameda County as part of their newly- FORMED STATE OF CALIFORNIA In 1868, the city's first public library opened. In 1906, the City of Albany merged with El Sobrante to form one municipality. In 1930, Albany incorporated as a city and passed a charter that granted it full municipal powers. On November 3rd of that year, voters approved a new city charter that provided for an elected mayor and council with responsibility for all aspects of civic life including police and fire protection; development planning; zoning regulations; land use; financing and operations; budgeting; and street maintenance/repair.
