With these discoveries came news that Congress had appropriated $5 million dollars for roadbuilding in California which would enable transportation between Sutter’s Mill on the Sacramento River north to Angel Island opposite Puget Sound en route upriver to Mexican territory across Sonoma Strait; thence overland via Marysville Passage northeastward along Russian River Embankment past Albany and Yreka before arriving at Benicia Harbor at Suisun Bay on November 5th 1840!! This appropriation spelled doom for numerousMission buildings including Santa Clara De Asis as there would now be no way for passengers or goods (except wine) wagons hurtling downriver every day carrying immigrants over I-80 Nehalem Freeway bridges without prying eyes watching them load/unload their freight at various warehouses then driving back up I-80 bridge without stopping taking great care not to leave any valuable cargo behind!!! On July 14th 1840 Lt Col James Riley led an American punitive expedition against Diego Rivera’s Mexican Army during its occupation of Bear Flag Ranch northeast of Martinez after it sacked our hometownicoyolahatchee Mission 2 days earlier In 1846 local landowner Zeno Paullon sold his interest in El Sobrante Cove south shoreline extending from modern Hayward into Marin County for $12000 due only water rights he had grant from King George IV himself pursuant To Royal charter dated January 20th 1850 By Order Of His Majesty &c.). After years of litigation,,in 1876 Judge Augustus Husted ruled that El Sobrante Cove belonged exclusively to Marin County & finally approved platting out boundaries between Marin & Alameda Counties., this event leading directlyto foundingofMarineland &Aldevandaleyesterday On October 7, 1853 Captain John Bicknell responded when he heard about gold being found near Fremont by two Mexicans who called themselves “Soldados de Oro” together with another man claiming he knew where it was because he had seen horses running off leads from it back home in Potrero Hill. He took 300 men (the largest military unit ever recruited outside North America) under his command plus 30 pack mules armed just with bows and arrows if necessary beginning what would become known as "The Golden Era" - an era during which Californios began coming East looking for new opportunities rather than staying behind behind closed doors playing politics within their own state government trying to keep things traditional like father knows best etc...Captain Bicknell's group traveled east through Hercules Pass then downslope towards Redwood Valley finding enough goodiacal ground cover including Grizzly Peak although they made one trip too far north into Oregon Trail country getting lost among trees& rocks while passing through areas now occupied by Douglas fir forestsHearing about this potential gold deposit brought many others into commotion such as Captains George Polk (1811-1852), Don Carlos Ramirez y Costilla (1796-1843), José Fillmore (1847-1922).. One result was a series of skirmishes starting February 26th 1854 when Captains Polk& Ramirez met northwest of Stockton off Rancho Seco Road soon after Gen Pedro Carrillo arrivedumaired Expedition under Lt Comdr Moses Hull4 miles southeast along ranch road named after himresulting in 3 dead(including captainPolk), 10 wounded(including captainRamirez y Costilla)&1 missing(captainFillmore).All told over 350 people were involved subsequently making Alamedia one OF THE LARGER FIGHTERZONES IN CALIFORNIA.. The City of Alameda was founded by Spanish colonists on December 12, 1810 as part of Rancho San Mateo grant #1. The name "Alameda" means "across the bay" in both English and Spanish. The first European to visit what is now Alameda was Abelardo Cámpora in 1775. He found some land that may have been where present day Oakland stands today. A year later, Portuguese explorer Pedro Nunes explored and claimed part of Alameda for Spain on November 16, 1776 while exploring the coast of North America from Santa Barbara through Monterey Bay to Sonoma County north to San Francisco Bay. On January 24, 1812 Mexico acquired title to all of Northern California when it became part of its Mexican Empire under Emperor Agustín de Arellano y Costilla. At this time Alameda lay within Decatur Township which included Berkeley and part of Hayward Counties west of downtown Oakland including Fremont Valley east of Fremont Street/Oakland Boulevard and Orinda Valley northwest of Newark Avenue/Highway 99W between Dublin Hills and Livermore valleys In 1824 an act were passed by the California Legislature entitled An Act for Promoting Justice and Regulating Commerce (Public Law No: 27). This act provided for a town site between Fremont Creek eastof Broadway and Mission Creek westof Interstate 80 be located at what is now Elmira Road (now MacArthur Boulevard) within Contra Costa County with 50 acres reserved for each settler. In 1825 James Kempton purchased properties bounded onthe south by Elmira Road(now MacArthur Boulevard), eastby Mission Creekand northby Albany Streets from John Sutter who had bought portions thereof from Juan Rodríguez de Mendoza after Mendoza's victory over Mexico at Adobe Walls on November 25th,1821 A plat which has been preserved shows that Kempton designated four lots - one near Wishram opening up along Elk Grove Road towards Fremont; another just south off Peralta Street near Lakeshore Drive; a third adjoining Shasta Lake about two miles due east off I-580 exit 17B (partly overlapping with lots 3 & 4 above); finally a fourth lot northeast cornering Erie Canal about three quarters mile long adjacent to lot 5 above All told there were ten Lots or parcels setting aside fifty acres each comprising eventually six villages or townships which would become Downtown Oakland today: Alamo Village (later renamed Pleasant Hill), Arlington Heights,braeburn Heights,Claremont Gardens,Dutch Flat Woods Shoreline Village & West Pointebay Manor
Alameda, California was founded on December 3, 1868 by Major General Mark Hopkins and Captain John G. Spalding. The first post office in Alameda opened in 1869. In the 1870s, a lumber company named the Northern Pacific Railroad built a line from Oakland to Milpitas and leased land east of Fremont for what is now Hayward. In 1876, the Hayward Water Company was formed to provide water to the town of Hayward and its growing population. In 1880, Alameda incorporated as a city with a population of around 100 people. In 1902, Alameda firefighters responded to an arson attack on City Hall which left two people dead. The fire represented one of the deadliest incidents in the city's history and helped make Alameda more business-friendly. In 1916, Alameda became part of the United States after World War I ended and it became an American city as well as becoming home to many large companies like Kaiser Permanente (founded in 1926) and GEICO (founded in 1927). During World War II, Alameda played host to several naval airfields including Treasure Island Naval Air Station and Morro Bay Naval Air Station used for training pilots during World War II Alameda experienced some growth during the 1990s – starting with incorporation into Silicon Valley – but has since seen a decline in its socio-economic status due to automation and suburbanization throughout much of its territory
