In 1868, Alameda County was founded and named in honor of General Antonio José de Alvarado, who led the Mexican War of Independence. The first firearm in the area was a shotgun called the Model 1836. In 1898, when California became a state, all firearms wereregulated by the state government. On December 12, 1922, Alameda became part of San Francisco and on February 14, 1946 it became an independent city. On November 1, 1951 incorporation of Oakland brought about changes to gun regulations within the city which led to increased violence in Oakland. On September 11th 1979 Oakland experienced one of its worst riots with more than 60 people dead and millions injured from gunshots and teargas grenades. Since then there have been occasional flare-ups between police and gunfire participants in various parts of Oakland but overall gun control has been much stricter than before thanks to Mayor Libby Schaaf’s leadership. In 2017 there were 5 fatal shootings involving officers within the city Limits; this is down from 10 fatalities during 2016

Alameda, California is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 113,571 as of the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in Contra Costa County after Richmond. The City of Alameda was founded on December 12, 1853 by Captain James A. Butterfield and his men as part of a wagon route between Stockton and San Francisco. The site for Alameda had been chosen because of its natural resources; nutmeg trees were first grown there and oak trees were also found nearby. By 1870, the town had been renamed Oakland after General Anthony Wayne's victory at Battle of Black Hawk over Native American forces near what is now Fremont Street and Broadway in Oakland. The city has seen various expansions since then; it gained a charter from the state of California in 1912, became an independent city with its own government in 1950, and again became an incorporated municipality with full control over its own services within five years. In 1990, Alameda merged with neighboring cities to form one large urban area known asOakland-Fremont-Hayward combined Statistical Area (CSA). Today, Alameda remains one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Northern California due to its large number of immigrants from Asia and Latin America who have come to work or make their homes here since the early 20th century. The earliest known inhabitants of present-day Alameda were Ohlone people who lived alongshore on tidal creeks that emptied into Lake Merritt before reaching inland waters such as those near Martinez Creekmouths where they hunted sea otters for their meat and eggs during summer months. Soon after arriving in this area they built villages including Onena Pointe on Staten Island Bayou opposite today's Hayward Fault line while others may have resided at various points around Point Reyes National Seashore east shoreline depending upon tide level changes during winter months which would enable them access to maritime resources alongshore including shellfish beds popular among local Native Americans as well as Coast Miwok hunter-gatherers living near Point Reyes Lighthouse North Beach adjacent Kuskokwim Peninsula etc.. Contact with European explorers began about 1700 when Spanish traders discovered El Sobrante Strait connecting San Francisco Bay to Puget Sound during exploratory voyages led by Gaspar de Portolà which followed surveyor Juan Bautista de Anza across Central America plundering coastal indigenous peoples sources cf Mission Santa Clara de Asís 1768 & Mission San José del Valle 1769 both established just southof present day Hayward & Orinda respectively although missions may not have reached inland areas until much later due west coast settlers arrived via shipwrecked sailors establishing towns like MontereyBay (Santa Cruz) & SolanoBay (San Mateo) prior thereto although these settlements did not necessarily develop into major inland communities unlike earlier ones which did so gradually ok process cf" early Californian Settlements" by Darrell Ewing pgs 171-172

It is the second most populous city on the West Coast of America after San Francisco. Alameda has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The first permanent settlements in Alameda were made by Spanish colonists in 1795 and it became a part of Contra Costa County in 1852. The large oak trees that line the streets and canals of Alameda are said to be the largest oak trees in California. In 1868, when Oakland split from Contra Costa County, Alameda remained withinOakland until 1972 when it became its own independent city under then- Mayor George Moscone. The name may come from an early Native American word meaning place where many deer roam or Hunting ground of many animals (alamo). In 1896, two men led by Henry Durant bought land east of downtown Oakland for $10 per acre and started growing well-to-do cotton with help from local farmers. That same year saw construction begin on what would become known as "the People's Park", which included a lake, baseball diamonds, tennis courts and more than 100 businesses and organizations including the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), now known as PG&E
